Restoration Technician
W e are seeking Technicians carry out installation and maintenance requirements on our ecological restoration and maintenance projects.
This person will be responsible for carrying out installations using established techniques.
Position Title : Restoration Technician
Job Function : Maintenance, Installation and Execution of Bioengineering elements
Job Type : Seasonal April December
Purpose : The Restoration Technician is responsible for carrying out our ecological restoration scopes. Restoration Teams use plant material and soil bioengineering techniques to repair erosion, strengthen, revegetate, and create habitat along riverbanks.
Restoration crews may also carry out Solar Irrigation and Maintenance scopes as necessary.
Status : Reports to Restoration Crew Foreman
Location : GCA, travel within four hours of Calgary Office may be required
Pay Level : Level 1
Duties and Responsibilities :
INSTALLATION
- Attend departmental meetings as necessary
- Handling and installing erosion control materials
- Repair / install perimeter fencing
- Minor irrigation maintenance and repair
- Prepare sites for planting
- Collecting and handling live stake plant material
- Install soil bioengineering elements
- Planting trees and shrubs
- Carry out maintenance and monitoring programs
- Working with solar irrigation for post-planting maintenance
- Carry out other project requirements as per Foreman / Project Manager
OTHER DUTIES
- Transport crews and materials to site as needed
- Ensure that provided vehicle is operated in a safe and respectful manner
- Correspond with Equipment Manager when regular maintenance, cleaning and repairs are required on the provided vehicle
- Clean, organize and maintain tool condition. Report lost or damaged equipment and PPE to Foreman
- Tool rentals, returns
- Keep up to date on relevant training
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience landscaping, tree planting or forestry an asset
High-quality plug planting skills
Experience using hand saws and pruning shears
Backcountry driving experience
Experienced with working outdoors in challenging weather
Experience supervising small team-oriented crews
Has a passion for the outdoors and environmental stewardship
Has an interest and curiosity for horticulture and restoration
Physical abilities must include : heavy lifting, resilience to cold and wet conditions, athletic level fitness, can travel by foot for long distances over uneven terrain
Strong knowledge of irrigation system design
Willingness to work and travel alone
