The Environmental Permitting and Management team comprises close to 100 employees at all levels involved in keystone projects throughout their lifecycle : from their early assessment of key constraints to strategic development of regulatory approvals processes to compliance management through construction and operations.

Our team works collaboratively within projects to gain social acceptance and manage our clients' commitments to the environment and sustainable development.

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Social Scientist to support a wide variety of infrastructure (e.g., transit, road / highway, power, etc.

and other environmental assessment projects. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter with 5-10+ years of experience with environmental assessments and consulting services in Canada.

Your role within the team :

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following :

  • Lead the assessment of project impacts on the socio-economic / human environment for provincial and federal impact assessments, including consideration of economy, community services and infrastructure, land use, and social determinants of health.
  • Lead baseline socio-economic / health studies, including desktop research, surveys, interviews, etc.
  • Effectively delegate tasks and activities to intermediate and junior staff and providing technical and supervisory guidance on assigned tasks.
  • Independently coordinate and manage external subcontractors.
  • Support the development and implementation of consultation and engagement programs.
  • Act as a project manager responsible for the development and management of scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Assist with and, as necessary, taking a lead role in the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities.

The Ideal Candidate :

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences (Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Regional Planning, Health or Social Sciences, Geography, etc.).
  • 10+ years of applied experience conducting socio-economic / health baseline studies and impact assessments. Experience in consulting is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with environmental assessment processes and other environmental legislation (federal, provincial, and territorial, in particular, the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act is an asset).
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel for short time periods.

Expected compensation for this role in British Columbia is between Pay Range $102k - $141k annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role.
