Description :
As a Clinical Genetics Technologist (CGT) I, you will perform and interpret routine and complex testing for various genetic conditions using molecular and cytogenetic techniques according to established procedures.
You will also participate in results entry into the laboratory information system (LIS), report generation, quality control, proficiency testing, lab safety procedures, literature review, test method evaluation, and document writing.
Other duties include but are not limited to maintaining lab equipment and supplies, training students and fellows / residents, participating in accreditation activities, and pre-analytical testing processes including accessioning.

Required Qualifications :
Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics. Active or eligible for registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications :
Successful completion of the Genetics Technology Graduate Diploma Program through the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences (Toronto, Ontario) OR the Clinical Genetics Technology Post Diploma Program at the BC Institute of Technology (Burnaby, BC) OR equivalent.
Work experience in a clinical Cytogenetics and / or clinical Molecular Genetics laboratory required; current clinical laboratory experience and knowledge in these techniques is preferred.
Attention to detail, aptitude and proficiency in manual and automated techniques is required. The ability to recognize testing / procedural anomalies and act appropriately to resolve these is required;
ability to do advanced maintenance with minimal supervision is an asset. Must have the ability to operate Windows.
