Job Description

The Grocery Buyer is responsible for researching, negotiating and overseeing the purchase of Grocery products with the purpose of delivering high-quality product at the best possible value for the customers.

The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities :

• Ensure compliance with Farm Boy corporate policies and procedures in all aspects of the procurement process.
• Liaise with external suppliers in the search for new products and conduct product testing where appropriate.
• Work with new and existing suppliers to negotiate the best cost and programs for products we list.
• Monitor quality assurance of product and address quality issues immediately as they occur with suppliers and Category Manager.
• Responsible for sourcing deals and managing the Grocery Promotional Programs.
• May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.

Qualifications

• Typically requires completion of a post-secondary education in Business Administration plus 3 to 5 years experience in a progressively responsible role purchasing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Understanding of business principles with superior standard of quality and attention to detail.
• Sound judgement with superior analytical and decision-making abilities.
• Negotiating experience with clear and effective communication style, both written and oral.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to travel with reliable transportation.
• Fluency in English and French shall be considered an asset.

Work & Sensory Environment :

• May be required to lift, carry or handle heavy objects.
• May be exposed to dangerous or unpleasant environmental elements such as noise and extreme temperatures.
