Journeyperson Millwright, Operations and Maintenance

The Facilities team is comprised of over 300 trades personnel and service workers that provide trusted services and stewardship in support of teaching, learning, and discovery. This team is responsible for operations, maintenance, service, utilities distribution, and customer support. The Facilities Team Charter describes the purpose, vision, and values that in turn support the campus community.
Primary Purpose : To support the service and maintenance of a variety of mechanical components and systems, fan systems, fluid power systems, and air supply systems on campus with a strong emphasis on applying preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
Nature of Work : Reporting to Assistant Manager, Facilities, this position works in a multi-trade environment under variable conditions, indoors as well as outdoors in all types of weather, and requires moderate to heavy physical labour. Working alone and in a team environment, the work is of high volume, variety, and complexity, often working with other trades, clients, and contractors under high-stress situations, and changing divisional needs. Physical challenges may include lifting heavy objects, working from ladders, or elevated platforms, in crawlspaces, confined spaces, and construction zones in hot, humid, noisy, and light and movement-restricted spaces is required. May come into contact with hazardous materials such as asbestos, free silica, lead, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and at times, carcinogenic materials. The incumbent will be provided with and required to wear personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection which requires the worker to be clean shaven at all times. Shifts may change periodically to accommodate work needs and must be able to be on-call on a rotational basis for emergencies as required.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities :
- Accountable to the Facilities Team Charter, aligned with the purpose, vision, and values, holding themselves and each other accountable to it
- Conduct inspections, testing, repairs, adjustments, alignments, alterations, and conveyance for the maintenance and repair of mechanical components and systems, fan systems, and fluid power systems in institutional-type buildings
Service, troubleshoot, and maintain various equipment, including but not limited to : Pumps, motors, and fans
Chain, belt, and gear drives, shafts, bearings, seals, couplings, clutches, and brakes
Hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum systems
Water booster systems, air compressors, sewage lift stations, reverse osmosis systems
Dust collectors, evaporative coolers, condenser fans, and other motorized operators
Safely perform rigging to lift, move, and secure heavy equipment during installation, repair, and maintenance activities, following all safety protocols and best practices to ensure safe operationsMaintain accurate, up-to-date records of maintenance and repairsDocument predictive maintenance activities and findings for mechanical systems and equipmentAdvise on and perform predictive maintenance on all serviced equipmentCollaborate with other personnel to implement and follow preventative and predictive maintenance schedulesInstruct maintenance staff on the proper operation and care of equipment to ensure safety and efficiencyReview and interpret electronic and paper design drawings as required to determine work scope and requirementsPrepare work estimates and create detailed plans for shop and field work to ensure clean and efficient installationsCoordinate tasks and projects with other trades and maintenance personnel to support overall operationsCommunicate material requirements for procurement and ensure timely acquisition for job completionMake recommendations for innovative improvements, repairs, and procedural advancements to enhance system reliabilityContribute to the long-term goal of reliability-centered maintenance for operational excellencePromote and maintain outstanding customer service by addressing needs promptly and effectivelyBuild and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, demonstrating respect and professionalismImplement and support workplace initiatives as directed by management, ensuring alignment with organizational objectivesConsistently follow all rules, expectations, and guidelines to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive work environmentComplete additional related duties as assignedEducation :
Current valid Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate in the Millwright trade as recognized by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission. The successful applicant for this position will be subject to a satisfactory criminal record check.Licenses :
Must hold and maintain a valid Province of Saskatchewan driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.Experience :
Three (3) to five (5) years’ of experience as a journeyperson millwright in an institutional or industrial environment performing both maintenance and construction work of the millwright trade. Demonstrated work order management skills and familiarity with the use of work management systems will be considered an asset. Formal training in preventative, diagnostic maintenance programs or PM implementation will also be considered an asset.Skills :
