Primary Objective of the Position
Under the direction of the Manager, Flight Dispatch, Flight Dispatchers are responsible for operational pre‑flight preparation and flight watch within a prescribed geographic area or for assigned flights, in accordance with Canadian and foreign government rules, the Cargojet Flight Operations Manual, and company policies.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce, review, authorize, issue and revise the Operational Flight Plan (OFP) for all flights, including training and test operations, meeting safety, regulatory, customer service and fiscal requirements.
- Authorize the release of an aircraft to operate in accordance with the OFP terms and conditions.
- Analyze operational conditions and identify opportunities or restrictions that may affect operational capabilities (weather, ATC, performance, etc.).
- Exercise operational control on a co‑authority basis with the pilot‑in‑command for safe and efficient flight planning and monitoring.
- Perform operational flight watch and determine when changes to the OFP are required, or when weather may affect flight safety, communicating changes to the flight crew as needed.
- Formulate and implement revised OFPs when warranted and communicate plans to the pilot‑in‑command.
- Initiate emergency response procedures as required.
- Communicate OFP requirements to ATC.
- Perform related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the Director, Flight Dispatch.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligible to commence Cargojet Flight Dispatcher training upon hiring; candidates must either :
Possess a current Transport Canada Flight Dispatcher Certificate at another operator, orHave completed the Transport Canada Generic Flight Dispatch Exams (FDOPS & FDMET) within the past 18 months.Hold a Transport Canada or FAA Flight Dispatcher Certificate for at least 3 years.Possess a Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification (ROC‑A).Be able to work well under pressure and in a fast‑paced environment.Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, working effectively with pilots, ground personnel and other departments.Apply strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.Manage time effectively and multitask.Demonstrate strong technical skills, including proficiency with flight‑planning computer systems; experience with Navblue N‑FP and Boeing OPT is an asset.Flexible to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.Important to Know
