Job description

We have an opportunity in our Vancouver office for a Strategic Facilities Planner to join our team.

Welcome to Kasian, where almost 40 years of design excellence has sparked a passion for transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences. Our passion is strengthening connections between people and places by creating built environments that inspire and improve lives. With offices across Canada, we leverage the experience of our 250+ Kasian team members to deliver innovative and unique design solutions in multiple market sectors: commercial, workplace, healthcare, senior living, industrial, transportation, post-secondary and other public opportunities.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Strategic Facilities Planner to join our team in Vancouver. You will be responsible for developing and implementing long-term facilities strategies that align with organizational goals. This role ensures that infrastructure planning supports operational needs, future growth, and sustainability objectives while optimizing space utilization and resources.

Our Strategic Programming & Planning (SPP) studio is an interdisciplinary team that works with clients to assess the feasibility of contemplated projects. We review the condition and capacity of existing facilities. We work closely with our clients to develop their facility vision and project future space and infrastructure requirements. We then translate that vision into a facility master plan, creating a step-by-step implementation plan.

Here’s what you’ll be doing at Kasian:

Strategic Planning:

  • Analyze industry or community trends, operational requirements, and future growth to inform infrastructure decisions.
  • Develop short- and long-term facilities plans to support organizational objectives.
  • Consider landscape and environmental factors in master planning to create holistic, sustainable solutions.
  • Incorporate principles of wellness, accessibility, and placemaking into facility strategies.

Space and Capacity Management:

  • Assess current facilities and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Forecast future space requirements and recommend solutions.

Leading Engagement Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and clients, in-person and virtually, to develop the project vision, to gather input and to solicit feedback on facility upgrades and/or new developments.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and engagement sessions that explore cultural, social, and environmental aspirations.

Project Coordination:

  • Coordinate with architectural and engineering partners in the development of a facility master plan.
  • Contribute to client business cases and coordinate cost-benefit analyses for proposed projects.

em>Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Gather and analyze data on facilities usage, capacity, and performance.
  • Assess site conditions and regulatory requirements and their potential effects on facility development
  • Develop reports and recommendations, including detailed functional programs, needs assessments, gap analyses, feasibility studies and facility master plans.

Here is what you bring to Kasian:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Planning, Architecture, Interior Design, Exhibit Design, Urban Planning or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in functional programming, strategic facilities planning or a similar role.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in reporting and space planning tools and software: Microsoft Suite, Adobe Creative Suite in particular, and InDesign is a must. Online survey or engagement tools, along with REVIT or AutoCAD, are an asset.
  • Ability to travel across Canada, with a focus on BC.

Core Competencies:

  • Strategic thinking and long-term vision.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and project tasks.
  • Strong research and analysis skills.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience with planning and undertaking public engagement is an asset.
  • Understanding of experiential design and its impact on user well-being.
  • Ability to integrate architectural, landscape, and interior perspectives into strategic planning. Site Planning and/or Interior Space Planning experience is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and project tasks.

Salary starts at $80,000+ per annum, based on a 40-hour work week. Actual compensation is subject to variations due to education, experience, and skill set.

What We Offer:

  • A creative and collaborative environment
  • National project exposure and opportunity to support high-profile pursuits
  • Mentorship and learning opportunities in business strategy and development
  • Great downtown office location with easy access to public transport
  • Flexibility and work-life balance in a values-driven workplace
