About our client :

Our client, a global leader in the Energy sector is looking for a Canadian Tax Manager to join their team. In this role, the Tax Manager will hold primary responsibility for Canadian income tax compliance, tax reporting, and Transfer Pricing.

Additionally, they will collaborate on tax initiatives and serve as a strategic business partner for operating and business transaction projects.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead the preparation of Canadian income tax and information returns.
  • Manage Canadian income tax audits, serving as the main contact for government tax audits, drafting and reviewing responses to inquiries, and assessing reviews.
  • Prepare the Canadian quarterly and annual income tax provisions and related note disclosures.
  • Assist in tax planning and reorganization projects, including conducting research and coordinating with advisors and internal stakeholders.
  • Offer expert guidance on Canadian tax matters for tax, operating, and business transaction projects.
  • Regularly conduct transfer pricing analysis, compiling necessary documentation to support annual transfer pricing studies.
  • Ensure that transfer pricing policies and documentation adhere to current regulations, are consistently applied, and remain compliant.
  • Oversee the calculation and payment of all tax installments and prepare cash tax estimates communicated to the Treasury.
  • Maintain responsibility for Canadian tax accounts to ensure an accurate reflection of the Company’s tax position and status.
  • Cultivate strong cross-functional working relationships with business units, including Legal, Operations, Accounting, Human Resources, and Treasury, to ensure tax considerations are integral to business decisions and any associated tax risks are identified and managed proactively.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate internal processes and guidelines to enhance efficiency, offering recommendations for optimizing and automating the tax function while mitigating tax risks.

Qualifications :

  • A professional accountant with at least 5 years of Canadian tax experience.
  • Completion of CPA In-depth Tax Program or equivalent
  • Prior experience preparing complex tax provisions of multinationals, US GAAP experience is an asset.
  • Strong team player who will partner in the process and be proactive.
  • Demonstrated technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive projects to completion.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills in order to communicate complex tax issues, analysis, and conclusions internally to technical and managerial audiences, as well as externally to the tax auditors and other parties of the assigned jurisdictions.
