Job Title: General Production Worker

Location: Abbotsford, BC

Pay Rate: $21-24/hr

Shift: Monday-Thursday

Morning Shift: 6am - 4:30pm

Afternoon Shift: 4:30pm-3am

Job Description

As a General Production Worker, you will be responsible for fabricating all components of timber structures. This includes working with mass timber products such as glue-laminated beams, laminated veneer lumber, nail-laminated timber, and dowel-laminated timber, as well as steel connectors, cables, and castings. You will also handle integrated structural panels complete with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems pre-installed in the shop.

Responsibilities

• Measure, mark, cut, and assemble elements to specifications.
• Read and follow shop drawings, cut lists, and production schedules.
• Use saws to cut wood to size.
• Sand, clean, and coat panels.
• Package glue-laminated beams and panels.
• Assist with panel fabrication by inserting screws and dowels.
• Use nail gun to attach plywood panels.
• Operate power and air tools including hand drills, skill saws, chop saws, and sanders.
• Work with plywood sheets.
• Perform cleanup duties.
• Operate wood production machines as needed.

Essential Skills

• 6+ months of carpentry experience including framing and finishing.
• 6+ months of production experience in an industrial shop.
• Proficiency with power tools such as drills, skill saws, hammers, nail guns, sanders, and measuring tape.
• Steel toe work boots.
• Good verbal and reading communication skills.
• Experience with hand tools, blueprints, sanding, packing, fabrication, wood framing, rough carpentry, power tools, heavy lifting, finish work, drills, saw operation, and wood planning.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2nd year carpenter certification.
• Experience with mass timber, timber framing, or structural wood products.
• Experience with sawmill or wood planning machines.
• Willingness to learn, good attitude, reliability, punctuality, and a strong desire to be present and engaged.

Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced and requires good communication skills. You'll be working primarily indoors in a wood production facility, with less than 10% of work taking place in the yard. The facility is well-ventilated and has an open production floor. There are approximately 50 employees on site, and cross-training opportunities are available. Necessary tools include a tape measure, basic tools like a hammer and speed square, and safety gear such as a hard hat and safety vest. Training will occur during the day shift from Monday to Thursday, 6am to 4:30pm, for 1-2 weeks.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
