LOCATION AND ABOUT NHH
ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Manager, Laboratory Services and accountable to the Laboratory Medical Director, the Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for all laboratory procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Current membership in the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario. Specialties to include Phlebotomy, Biochemistry, Hematology, and Immunohematology
- Recent core lab experience in a hospital environment preferred
- Good communication skills, demonstrated tact and diplomacy, ability to cooperate and de-escalate conflict with others, ability to prioritize and work well under pressure
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
- In-depth working knowledge of laboratory accreditation requirements preferred
- Attention to detail and adherence to policies and procedures are required
- Ability to work independently, as a team member including good time-management skills
- Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard
- Must be available to work all shifts including weekends/relief work and vacation
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
- Responding professionally and appropriately in high stress and emergency situations
- Must have the required manual and mental accuracy for safe and effective handling and troubleshooting of samples and equipment
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
