Determined. Imaginative. Curious. If these are some of the ways you describe yourself — we want to learn more about you! At TC Energy, we are Energy Problem Solvers — passionate about transitioning North America to cleaner energy while meeting the energy demands of today and tomorrow. If that sounds like a challenge you want to help tackle, we want you to join our team!

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Hire and Buy Local, External Relations Canada this person is responsible for the successful implementation of a “Hire and Buy Local” framework for projects in British Columbia designed to ensure that local communities and local Indigenous Nations benefit from TC Energy’s projects and operations.

We believe that those who are most impacted should benefit most. This role will be responsible for ensuring that BC projects and operations prioritize the hiring of local workers and the buying (contracting/procurement) of local goods and services. In this role you will work closely with the external relations team, supply chain, project management teams, prime contractors, subcontractors and Indigenous Nations to collaboratively achieve the outcomes of Hire and Buy Local.

The success of the Hire and Buy Local program requires support from Business Units, Supply Chain and corporate support functions and the right candidate will be able to get these teams aligning and working towards common goals The individual must be a strategic thinker and able to develop and execute on plans and not afraid to roll up their sleeves and complete tasks themselves.

What You’ll Do

Doing this will require you to dive deep on the details, while maintaining a broad perspective and understanding of desired outcomes (more local hiring and buying). You will need to work with a many internal and external stakeholders and Indigenous Nations to ensure consistent and effective implementation of the Hire and Buy Local program and plans from contractors as well as managing issues effectively. Doing so successfully will require you to understand and internally promote the benefits of this approach through strategic influencing.

You will have a natural curiosity about data that ensures you are able to draw insights and drive continuous improvement.

You will design think creatively about how results are communicated internally and externally. You will find ways to simplify business process and remove obstacles.

  • Develop and execute the implementation plan for Hire and Buy Local
  • Ensure that Hire and Buy Local is implemented across BC projects and operations
  • Ensure effective public and internal reporting and tracking
  • Lead information sessions across the projects
  • Support engagement leads in the field and lead external engagement on Hire and Buy Local such as early discussions on opportunities, debriefs and issues management
  • Evaluate Hire and Buy Local Plans submitted by contractors and vendors to ensure Hire and Buy Local objectives are being achieved
  • Work with business partners to develop and implement the appropriate data governance and tools to drive continuous improvement
  • Draft, revise, and finalize critical documentation
  • Participate in regular meetings with TC Energy project management, construction management, supply chain, suppliers, Indigenous Nations and local communities, and contractors
  • Monitor and support TC Energy contractors and vendor performance and work collaboratively with contractors to remedy non-performance
  • Provide feedback to Indigenous Nations and affiliated businesses through all phases of the projects
