Job description

Overview

Site Leader - Clinical Operations - Royal Columbian Hospital - casual at Fraser Health Authority. The role oversees and coordinates the delivery of direct patient/resident care after hours, on weekends and/or as assigned, including supervision of staff and the effectiveness of care provided on the units.

Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $52.39 - $70.26 / hour.

Job Summary

Royal Columbian Hospital is conveniently located adjacent to the Sapperton SkyTrain station on the Expo Line, making it easily accessible by public transit for both patients and staff. The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project (RCHRP) is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital\'s capacity, beds, and services.

New Westminster

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and coordinates delivery of direct patient/resident care after hours, on weekends and/or as assigned.
  • Directs Patient Care Coordinators (PCCs) and/or Charge Nurses; coordinates patient/resident placement and discharge needs; assess bed utilization and flow; identify improvement opportunities.
  • Liaises with the Access Coordinator and BC Bedline to facilitate transfers; resolve care issues and coordinate care.
  • Assesses critical situations and decides on actions including bed utilization; liaises with Administrator on Call as required.
  • Ensures appropriate resources, including staffing, are available to provide safe care; assesses workload and authorizes overtime as needed.
  • Collaborates with Staffing Office to maintain optimal staffing levels and monitor overtime use.
  • Interviews, selects and supervises staff; provides support to preceptors/preceptees; communicates performance information to management.
  • Investigates and resolves staff issues per collective agreements and hospital policies; refers disciplinary issues as needed.
  • Represents the unit in problem/conflict resolution with patients, families and staff; initiates corrective action and policy changes as needed.
  • Monitors contingency staffing plans and communicates concerns to managers.
  • Contributes to budget discussions and resource management; promotes continuous quality improvement and best practices.
  • Promotes safe work practices and health and safety compliance; investigates incidents and takes corrective action.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness and may act as incident commander as assigned.
  • Collaborates with managers/educators to provide ongoing staff education and development.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor\'s Degree in Nursing from an approved School of Nursing. Five (5) years\' recent acute care experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory/administrative role, or equivalent.

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to supervise, lead and provide direction
  • Ability to teach and facilitate learning for staff and patients/families

  • Critical thinking, problem solving and conflict management
  • Ability to work with patients, families, the public and interdisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency with related equipment and computer technology
  • Physical capability to perform duties
