Job Summary

We are hiring for a Part Time Radiological Technologist, Interventional Angiography at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Education, Training And Experience

  • Certification with the CAMRT. A minimum of two (2) years’ recent, related experience in interventional radiography or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

The Medical Imaging transfer of service to Fraser Health is now completed and we are thrilled to have the Medical Imaging Teams as part of Fraser Health again. Royal Columbian Hospital is a provincial referral hospital (stroke/cardiac/trauma/neurosurgery) located in New Westminster, BC, with 439 acute beds and nearly 80,000 visits annually. Services include 24/7 emergency, outpatient, ambulatory care and a range of inpatient services. The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project is under way to increase capacity, beds and services by about 50 percent.

Responsibilities

  • Performs interventional and angiography procedures in accordance with established procedures by completing requisitions and related paperwork, entering patient information into radiology information systems, preparing examination trays and patients, following aseptic technique, assisting Radiologist in procedures, operating imaging equipment, processing and archiving data, labeling permanent records and ensuring departmental standards are met.
  • Assists Radiologist during body and neuroangiography procedures and interventional cases by acting as circulation and scrub support during procedural examinations and treatments.
  • Monitors patient during procedures, responding to possible contrast media reactions or other emergent situations; may perform CPR if required.
  • Images studies using radiography equipment and information systems, checks patient identification, collates images with requisitions, and reports equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor.
  • Facilitates workflow in the designated work area and coordinates with inpatient examination timing and porters as needed.
  • Performs quality control duties such as scheduling and performing equipment tests, recording results, and notifying the Supervisor of issues for action.
  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement/LEAN programs, using monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks.
  • Maintains work area, prepares examination trays, uses aseptic technique, stocks supplies, and notifies Supervisor when items are depleted.
  • Demonstrates procedures and equipment use to staff and participates in orientation of new employees.
  • Maintains patient and hospital records by entering data into radiology and hospital information systems as required.
  • Responds to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding examinations and schedules; refers other concerns to the supervisor as required.
  • Determines workload measurements and compiles workload statistics and other reports; may make recommendations to improve services.
  • Ensures department safety practices, including Fire, Disaster, WHMIS, Smart Moves and Infection Control; updates staff on safety changes and ensures proper training.
  • Participates in approved research and special projects in collaboration with the Supervisor and other health care professionals.
  • Maintains equipment by monitoring operation and arranging for maintenance or repairs as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

  • Certification with the CAMRT. A minimum of two (2) years’ recent, related experience in interventional radiography or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for general radiology, angiography and interventional procedures.
  • Knowledge of CAMRT standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners.
  • Aseptic technique, evidence-based practice, IR techniques, and safe work procedures with imaging equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; plan and establish workload priorities.
  • Intravenous therapy and CPR proficiency; physical ability to perform duties.
  • Knowledge of PACS/radiology information systems and computer skills.
  • Ability to teach, coach and mentor staff; effective communication with clients, families, coworkers and physicians.
