The Innovation team co-creates, implements, measures, and scales local solutions to everyday community challenges. Over the next 5-10 years, our focus includes the Gen H Lifestyle Experience, Gen H Play Project, and North Calgary Complete Community Initiative.
Role
As Expert, Climbing, you will assist in developing, resourcing, delivering, evaluating, and evolving climbing programs. You will engage with customers, community, and staff to drive our mission, re-imagine operations, and lead the climbing team to achieve impactful results.
Reports to: Sport Coordinator
Shifts: Up to 2 evenings per week (4:00-9:00 PM), and Saturdays & Sundays (8-hour shifts)
Responsibilities
- Oversee all climbing offerings, including curriculum-based, play-based experiences, school activities, and special events.
- Innovate and recommend new spontaneous play experiences, building team capacity through a service design approach.
- Monitor and report usage and impact regularly.
- Collaborate with team members to test, evaluate, and design experiences that add value for pass holders.
- Develop business cases for new learning experiences in the climbing area.
- Build relationships with participants to understand their needs and translate insights into program improvements.
- Apply service design thinking to re-imagine and develop the climbing experience.
- Explore trends and practices in outdoor environments, experience delivery, and equipment maintenance, recommending solutions.
- Implement learnings from testing into daily operations.
- Manage work plans and performance targets for the climbing team.
- Recruit, mentor, and performance-manage team members, ensuring high performance.
- Revise policies, procedures, and training manuals to align with new practices.
- Handle scheduling and payroll for 13 part-time staff and volunteers.
- Assist in developing and monitoring the climbing budget.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in education, recreation, management, or related fields.
- 2-3 years of experience in climbing curriculum and environments.
- 1-2 years of leadership and supervisory experience in climbing.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certifications.
- Designated climbing certifications by Vivo.
