Job description
Position SummaryCalgary Classical Academy is seeking guest teachers who can provide classroom instruction and supervise students in grades K-10 in the event that their regular teacher is unavailable. The Calgary Classical Academy offers an academically rigorous liberal arts education focused on the developing the knowledge, virtues, and habits befitting free citizens. Among the school s distinct features are a smartphone-free, low-tech environment; its embrace of traditional pedagogy and teacher-led classrooms; a knowledge-rich curriculum centered on classical and enduring works of literature, philosophy, and art; a focus on character and the nurturing of virtues; a culture of friendship and leisure (schole); and an explicit commitment to the pursuit of truth, beauty, and wisdom. We encourage you to apply to be a Guest Teacher if you: Are passionate about the liberal arts, and about the pursuit of truth and wisdom Care deeply about supporting students in pursuing moral and intellectual excellence Bring a sense of wonder and delight to your taught subjects, and are eager to share that love with students Hold a valid Alberta teaching certificate Are able to quickly adapt to diverse new situations Are an avid learner who seeks professional growth and continually expands your academic knowledge Support the mission and philosophy of the Calgary Classical Academy Functions Classroom Teaching Interpret, adapt, and deliver lesson plans as provided by the regular teacher; Where complete lesson plans are not provided, quickly develop a lesson plan by referring to the relevant course lead sheet(s) Maintain classroom discipline Record daily student attendance Provide a report to the regular teacher concerning the material taught and student performance Other related duties as assigned Education and Experience Essential Preferred Education Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent X Valid Alberta teaching certificate Experience Work experience or pre-service experience within a school environment Relevant Skills or Attributes Classroom Management Skills Experience delivering lessons using Direct (Explicit) Instruction X Understanding and appreciation of Calgary Classical Academy s philosophy Lesson planning and design Familiarity with the new Alberta Programs of Study X General content knowledge Specialized content knowledge or training (e.g. in math, history, languages, physical education, etc.) Ability to take initiative and works independently Strong organizational skills Basic First Aid Application Details:Please email a CV and cover letter to Philosophical QuestionIn addition, please provide a response of no more than 1000 words to ONE of the following questions:What is the ultimate purpose of education?
