The OpportunityRVS is seeking an outstanding professional for a continuing, full-time (35 hours/week) Indigenous Cultural Liaison position to work a 10-month school calendar schedule starting August 27, 2026. Reporting to the Director of Indigenous Learning, the Indigenous Cultural Liaison is responsible for supporting the implementation of cultural programming that increases Indigenous student attendance & engagement in schools throughout Rocky View Schools (RVS). Indigenous Cultural Liaison services include student, family, and employee support, as well as family-school relationship building and community coordination of services as needed. Through strength-based, student-centered, goal-focused approaches, the Indigenous Cultural Liaison will work collaboratively with parents/legal guardians, school administrators, and RVS employees to help Indigenous students fulfill their potential. The position provides ongoing supports for cultural programming, and academics, supports relationships between families and RVS employees, and liaises between the child, family, school, and community resources.This position will be located at the Education Centre in Airdrie, Alberta and access to reliable transportation is a requirement, as some travel will be required.ResponsibilitiesProvides cultural lessons, demonstrations and teachings to RVS employees and studentsSupports employees with cultural understandings to support communication between students, families, and community membersSupports Indigenous student transitions to middle school, high school, and post-secondaryCollaboratively works with school-based employees in implementing learning support processes for Indigenous studentsMaintains proper documentation of services provided to Indigenous families and students, including a closing summary for RVS Learning Support Department recordsMaintains and develops ongoing, deep, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities in the region they work as they pertain to educationAdvocates for and supports the inclusion of Indigenous history and knowledge into curricular activities, and model lessons and cultural teachingsSupports and guides schools in culturally sensitive ways to introduce a balanced perspective of the history in Canada, contemporary Indigenous issues and celebrations and the history and legacy of residential schoolsSupports the Learning Department and schools in the promotion of Indigenous educational opportunities and programs for students, employees, parents, and communitySupports the creation of cultural programs for Indigenous students, parents, and the communityAdvocates for the needs of Indigenous students and familiesCoordinates Elders, knowledge keepers, and community members to support teaching and learningSupports the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's recommendations as they pertain to educationEnhances the relationships amongst Indigenous students, teachers, school administrators, parents, and other community agencies involved with Indigenous students and familiesProvides support for interventions, utilizing a family systems approach and mediation support for schools and families dealing with multiple issues in culturally safe waysSupports Indigenous student leadership, family and community engagement initiativesFacilitates culturally appropriate concrete services such as food, clothing, shelter, and additional supports when needed for Indigenous students and familiesCoordinates/facilitates targeted parent and student groups increasing awareness surrounding the Indigenous family system, social needs, and emotional needs and the best approaches to meet these needs Participates regularly in supervision processes and monthly meetings which support reflective practice to improve skills and knowledgeResearches and builds working relationships with existing Indigenous community resources and make referralsEducation/ExperienceBachelor's degree in the areas of intercultural education, community development, or related fieldCertificate or Diploma in First Nations, Metis and Inuit Community Liaison ProgramLived experience of Indigenous ways of Knowing and Being, and the history and experience of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, particularly the Treaty 7 areaDemonstrated experience working with Indigenous students, families, and community members3+ years' experience in community development work is preferred, preferably in an Indigenous settingAn equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be consideredKnowledge and SkillsSound knowledge and understanding of child growth and development and possible impacts of intergenerational traumaAbility to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervisionDemonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in a timely mannerDemonstrated ability to create and maintain trusting reciprocal relationships between Indigenous communities and schoolsCollaborative problem-solving and conflict resolution skills (restorative circles), and culturally appropriate ethical judgementKnowledge of best practices in Indigenous learning and deep understanding of Indigenous history, culture, language, and familiesExcellent communication, listening, and observations skills, with the ability to speak one of the languages of the Treaty 7 areaFamiliarity with the history and cultures of the Treaty 7 area is an assetAbility to organize, prioritize, and maintain accurate recordsSound, culturally appropriate ethical judgementAbility to relate to students and families in an empathetic, respectful,
