Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Northern Alberta Cardiac Rehabilitation Program provides exercise and education services that help patients manage their health following a cardiac event. The Physiotherapist II (PT II) is an Advanced Practice Role requiring specialized knowledge and skills to support patients with diverse rehabilitation needs. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the PT II collaborates with healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient-centered care. The PT II participates in program, zone and provincial initiatives. Responsibilities: Assess, treat, and manage patients with cardiovascular conditions and post-surgical cardiac rehabilitation needs. Monitor patient progress and develop individualized treatment plans. Identify barriers to rehabilitation participation and implement appropriate interventions. Apply skills in musculoskeletal, neurological, balance and falls prevention, equipment prescription, and vestibular rehabilitation. Deliver in-person and virtual education on exercise, cardiovascular health, energy conservation, and self-management. Develop and update educational resources and patient support materials. Facilitate group exercise sessions with Exercise Specialists. Apply evidence-based practice and current exercise physiology guidelines. Use chronic disease management, behavioral psychology, and motivational interviewing techniques to support lifestyle change. Coordinate referrals and liaise with community resources to enhance patient care. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, committees, and working groups at program, zone, and provincial levels. Support research, innovation, online patient resources, and ongoing program development. Evaluate and advance the physiotherapy role to meet the evolving needs of the cardiac rehabilitation program.

Description:

As a Physiotherapist II, you will provide coordination of physiotherapy and other allied health clinical services. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. You will work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure physiotherapy practice is evidence based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be coordinating the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will participate in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will make decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow, caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. AHS is dedicated to supporting our Physiotherapists in their practice area and expanding their skillsets regardless of location. All AHS Physiotherapists have access to a list of experienced clinicians across the province and are able to tap into this resource via email, phone and virtual meetings. As we transition to our Provincial Electronic Medical Record (Connect Care) you will also be able to share patient information real time with these senior clinicians to assist you in providing high quality care.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current AADL authorizer or within 3 months of hire Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BLS) certification. Must be physically able to perform CPR. Must be able to tolerate activity within the day including the capacity to move and transfer patients, walk moderate distances, and be able to stand for long periods of time as needed Knowledge and understanding of Adult Learning Principles. Demonstrated initiative, adaptability and flexibility to meet varying clinical and operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous or recent experience with cardiovascular patients CSEP or ACSM certification Knowledge in ECG interpretation MSK designations: manual therapy, needling techniques, etc Vertigo assessment and treatment
