Your Opportunity:
The Director, Cancer Advanced Analytics, is responsible for oversight of the Cancer Advanced Analytics program. This includes strategic leadership in advancing cancer analytics for health service improvement, operations, surveillance, and academic research. This position is responsible for leadership and oversight of the Alberta Cancer Registry, Data Integrity & Integration, Cancer Surgery Alberta, and Cancer Surveillance & Reporting teams. The Director works with clinicians, leaders, and researchers internal and external to Health Shared Services (HSS) to expand the use of data, analytics and decision support in new and novel ways. The underlying aim is to elevate the data and systems to increase the quality and impact of cancer analytics and research. This involves fostering collaboration and innovation beyond oncology, leveraging Connect Care and other systems to expand research opportunities, data access, automated reporting/dashboards while also developing innovative analytic techniques. The Director works in collaboration with Provincial Programs, Universities, clinical and academic researchers, provincial health Ministries/Agencies/Corporations (notably Cancer Care Alberta, CCA), as well as national and international cancer organizations, and is responsible for the alignment of cancer analytics goals and objectives with those of Cancer Research, CCA, Connect Care, and Alberta’s new Cancer Care Plan.
Description:
This position oversees the development, validation, and continuous improvement of cancer data assets and related measurement and reporting systems, ensuring high quality, timely, and methodologically sound analytics to support cancer care and research needs, provincial planning, performance measurement, and health system decision making. Specific responsibilities include: Leading and managing multiple provincial teams across multiple sites (70-80 FTEs in total). Establishing analytic priorities, designing appropriate analytic and reporting methods, and managing stakeholder expectations for operational needs, strategic decision-making, and planning. Developing dashboards/scorecards that present a broad perspective on clinical performance and quality (may involve the inclusion of fin Builds and maintains strong partnerships across federal, provincial, and international organizations to advance cancer data standards, analytic innovation, and collaborative research. Leads Alberta’s participation in national and international cancer measurement and surveillance committees (, Statistics Canada, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Partnership Against Cancer). Directs provincial participation and resourcing to major international research and benchmarking initiatives (, International Cancer Benchmarking Partnership). Provides oversight of the Alberta Cancer Registry and all provincial cancer data submissions to Statistics Canada and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, ensuring adherence to rigorous national and international data quality standards. Contributes and advises on publications and reports on cancer surveillance, epidemiology and analytics with key stakeholders within Alberta and other provincial, national and international organizations.
Required Qualifications:
Graduate degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, business, analytics, or other related field with an advanced quantitative focus.
