The Amazon Payment Product team is responsible for developing the platform and applications used to introduce new and innovative payment methods to customers as well as support Amazon’s global CoBrand and Private label credit cards along with the world’s largest rewards catalog, Shop with Points. The technology we build and operate varies widely, ranging from large scale Distributed Engineering incorporating the latest from Machine Learning in the Big Data space to customer and mobile friendly User Experiences. We are an agile team, moving quickly in collaboration with our business to bring new features to millions of Amazon customers while having fun and filing new inventions along the way. We engineer business solutions to help our customers get unrivalled value out of their cards on the Amazon websites.

We are looking for a passionate, results-oriented inventive Software Development Manager. As the development manager, you'll lead a talented and nimble team of engineers. Your responsibilities include direct management of 8+ engineers, process and quality of service improvements, strategic planning, project management for software within the team, and management of resources across teams. Successful candidates will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. The business requires creative engineering balanced with high quality and customer focus.


Key job responsibilities
• Hire, motivate, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, providing them with appropriate opportunities to succeed in their career objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work effectively with product managers and software engineers on other Commerce Platform teams to ensure the successful delivery of features.
• Ensure timely execution of key organizational goals and customer launches by removing blockers and reducing execution risks.
• Work closely with the leadership team to provide input on OP1, roadmaps, and strategic discussions.
• Develop the long-term strategy for your programs and translate that into an achievable road map/action plan
• Be deeply involved with engineers to architect and develop the best technical designs and approaches.
• Build operational excellence to reduce lead times and maintain the operations of critical services.
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
• Clearly communicate technical decisions and progress to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management

A day in the life
As an SDM in Amazon Payment Products org, you will lead a high-performing engineering team, collaborate with cross-functional team of PMs, TPMs, Designers. You will also directly work with external finance partners and deliver the best-in-class payment products for Amazon customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
