Financial Analyst - Physician Compensation

Reporting to the Corporate Manager, Physician Compensation & Funding Analysis, the Financial Analyst manages the reporting, reconciliation and variance analysis between the funding and payment arrangements for physician compensation.

The Financial Analyst provides complex analysis and expert advice to management on issues related to physician compensation such as deviations from the funding plan and expenditure anomalies.

The Financial Analyst coordinates meetings and acts as the main liaison to PHSA Agency staff concerning physician compensation matters.

What you'll do

Coordinates, analyzes and trouble shoots physician payments within the Physician Compensation Database System (PCDS) and BCCSS Accounts Payable.

Provides support to management, PHSA Agency staff, and Physician Leads regarding these payments.

Executes high quality financial reports on subjects related to physician compensation to assist with managerial decisions.

Compiles accurate and detailed funding reports from a range of data sources to be submitted to the Ministry. Prepares briefing material for senior management as required.

  • Reviews and adds value to accounting-period end reports by comparing actuals versus budget, investigating variances and liaising with the Business Planning group and Finance staff to explain deviations.
  • Develops accounting processes and strategies that maintain the integrity and confidentiality of physician information over clinical contracts, salary agreements and medical administrative contracts across PHSA's agencies.
  • Delivers complex analysis to management on a variety of physician compensation issues within the PCDS. Looks to add value by enhancing existing procedures to improve efficiency and to save resources.

Participates in various projects to facilitate and lead various initiatives like the development of invoicing and payment business process flows within the PCDS.

  • Liaises with a variety of internal and external stakeholders such as Physician Leads, Department Heads, Ministry representatives, Doctors' of BC staff, UBC program managers, and other Health Authorities to collaborate and resolve physician compensation related issues.
  • Leads training and provides support to other members of the Physician Compensation Finance team such as analyzing operational problems and recommending innovative solutions

What you bring

Qualifications

A professional accounting designation (CPA), plus five (5) to seven (7) years of related experience including funding reconciliation, financial reporting, and variance analysis.

Experience with physician compensation in a health care environment would be a significant asset.

Superior analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to identify, interpret, assess and resolve complex issues and present information succinctly.

Demonstrated ability to use database, spreadsheet and word processing software at an advanced level. Ability to facilitate and encourage cooperation between diverse operational groups and skill sets, and to work collaboratively to design and implement solutions.

Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, good judgment and initiative.

  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have : Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

Job Type : Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range : $74,618 - $107,264 / year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.

Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
