Role

Catch Engineering (“Catch”) is seeking an enthusiastic engineering student who has completed at least one full year of post-secondary studies in engineering, with a preference for those specializing in Electrical Engineering. This role supports our Engineering and Project teams for summer 2026 (May–August), with flexible start and end dates. Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30. As an Engineering Summer Student, you will have the opportunity to work independently on various project support tasks while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including technical staff, Project Managers, and clients. The role requires adaptability, as tasks may vary depending on project needs during the work term. Core working hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with flexibility around start and end times. This position will be based in our head office in the west end of downtown Calgary, 2 blocks from a C-train station. The majority (95% +) of work will be in-office, with the potential for occasional travel to client work sites. Office perks include bottomless high-quality coffee, an on-site fitness center, monthly lunch & learns, and regular staff social events.

Areas of Accountability

  • Collaborate with Catch teams, vendors, and clients to develop valuable workplace skills through hands-on projects and networking.
  • Receive mentorship and training from experienced professionals in drafting, design, automation, electrical / mechanical / process engineering, project management, and business development.
  • Establish and maintain interfaces and a positive relationship with the Team, clients, and all other external parties.
  • Apply academic learning in a practical, real-world work environment.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents (datasheets, designs, drawings, layouts, schematics, schedules, diagrams, simulations, and equipment sizing) and drafting of reports, updating databases, and maintaining records.
  • Support the development of proposals and project documentation.
  • Other duties as requested and assigned by senior staff.

Qualification Requirements

Along with an enthusiastic and professional attitude, you must also have:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited engineering program with at least one year of completed study. Preference given to candidates specializing in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada, and currently 15-30 years of age.
  • Previous experience in engineering, oil and gas, or electrical utility environments is an asset, as is experience using AI tools or HubSpot.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including flexibility, task management, and prioritization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • High-level digital skills – proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel. Familiarity with software such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, ETAP, is an asset.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong personal relationships.
