Job description

Job Description:

A part-time temporary position to co-coordinate and teach a portion of FMST 1115 –
Perspectives on Family Studies. This is a first-year course designed to introduce students
to the definitions, concepts, experiences, dynamics, and theories of family
through an interdisciplinary approach. This course will guide students to more
specialized Family Studies core courses: History of the Family, Sociology and
the Family, Psychology of the Family and related Women’s Studies courses.

It is a team-taught course so applicants should be able to cooperate with other instructors in the development of curriculum and the major assignment, the integration of lectures, and team marking. It is desirable that applicants have expertise in research/or experience in teaching courses in a specific discipline (History, Sociology, Psychology) and can incorporate topics concerning families in a Canadian and local context which pays particular attention to diverse families, knowledge of intersections with gender, race, class, sexuality, and Indigeneity, housing, location and the environment.

Required Qualifications

- Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field is required (e.g., History, Sociology, Psychology).

- Demonstrated Canadian post-secondary teaching experience related to the course content.

- Experience of teaching in a team environment.

- Available to teach Thursday’s from 14:30-16:20 in class.

- Experience using teaching technology to post some content online and Brightspace.


Additional Info:

Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.

Salary Range:

$46.06 - $142.49
