Job description

WHO WE ARE

Smartrend Manufacturing Group (SMG) Inc. is one of Manitoba's fastest-growing companies, committed to increasing safety in the school bus industry and reducing emissions in the electric vehicle charging sector through our diverse divisions. We design and develop exciting, patented, and innovative technologies that make a real and lasting impact across multiple industries.

At the heart of our success are the values that guide everything we do:

  • People – our team is what makes us special
  • Passion – from our hearts and minds, demonstrated through our actions
  • Priority – we put the customer first, every day, in everything we do
  • Partnership – with each other, our customers, and our suppliers

We provide a supportive environment where hard work, passions, and goals are recognized. Innovation and collaboration are at the heart of what we do. Share your drive and aspirations with us, and we'll ensure that your efforts open doors to new opportunities and growth.

THE POSITION

As a Material Handler, you play a critical role in supporting manufacturing operations by ensuring materials are accurately prepared, available, and delivered to production teams on time. Highly organized and detail-oriented, you take ownership of order preparation, material movement, and inventory accuracy to keep production running smoothly. Comfortable working with computers and reporting tools, you actively support inventory controls and continuously look for ways to improve efficiency and reduce stock shortages. With a strong “can-do” and hands-on attitude, you thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and are willing to do what's needed to support operational success.

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING AN IMPACT

  • Prepare orders by processing requests, pulling materials, packing boxes, and staging orders in the delivery area.
  • Load, unload, and move products and materials manually or using basic material handling equipment.
  • Perform general material handling tasks, including packing and unpacking materials.
  • Supply production teams with raw materials based on production orders, BOMs, and pick lists.
  • Enforce inventory controls by collecting stock location orders and generating required documentation.
  • Complete shipments by accurately processing and confirming orders.
  • Kit electronic component parts from multiple warehouse locations and deliver them to assembly teams.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Materials are accurately picked, kitted, and delivered to production on time, supporting uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
  • Inventory records remain accurate, with discrepancies identified and addressed promptly.
  • Production teams consistently have the right materials, in the right quantities, at the right time.
  • Orders and shipments are prepared correctly, packed securely, and staged efficiently for delivery.
  • Equipment, tools, and work areas are maintained in a safe, organized, and ESD-compliant manner.
  • Potential material shortages are proactively identified and communicated before they impact production.
  • Processes are followed consistently, with opportunities for efficiency and improvement regularly identified.
  • Collaboration with warehouse, production, and assembly teams is timely, clear, and solution-focused.

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU REQUIRE

  • Prepare orders by processing requests, pulling materials, packing boxes, and staging orders in the delivery area.
  • Bring a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within electronics manufacturing.
  • Safely lift up to 55 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Hold a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Have experience working with NetSuite ERP / WMS (preferred).
  • Obtain forklift certification within 90 days of the job start date.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with ESD handling practices (preferred).
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Apply prior experience in inventory control and stock management.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work efficiently, stay organized, and keep pace in a fast-moving, high-volume picking environment

THE BENEFITS OF BEING PART OF OUR TEAM

We believe that a healthy, supported team is key to our success. That's why we offer a benefits package that prioritizes work-life balance, financial wellness, and overall well-being.

Our team members enjoy:

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Group insurance plan with health spending account
  • Paid Vacation
  • Company-paid shutdown from Christmas to New Years
  • Matching RRSP program

We would like to thank all applicants who apply, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
