Technical Translator (French)/Technical Writer
Job Description:
This position is intended to combine translation duties and technical writing.
● Translates documents from English to French.
● Ability to read and understand the context of mechanical information or will train.
● Revise and proofread existing documents to ensure accuracy.
● Establish and maintain a lexicon of technical terms and standardized grammar.
● Familiar with specialized CAT tools (Déjà Vu) and specialized dictionaries (Termium) as references for translating and proofreading French text is an excellent asset to have.
● Research, plan, create and revise technical documents using approved data from multiple sources
● Technical content being created or revised includes: service bulletins, installation instructions, operations and maintenance manuals.
Qualifications:
● College diploma in technical communication; or equivalent experience.
● Good planning, organizational, leadership, interpersonal, analytical, decision making, oral and written communication skills.
● Shall have the ability to perform both individually and as part of a diverse team.
● Consult with subject matter experts and other publication staff on writing and illustration requirements, production schedules, formatting specifications and delivery deadlines.
● Knowledge of desktop translation and publishing software (Déjà Vu, InDesign, Frame Maker, Adobe Acrobat) and familiarity with Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator.
● Exceptional research, grammatical and written communication skills, as well as excellent organizational and analytical skills.
● Good computer skills. Open to learning new software specific to this role
Candidate should possess some mechanical knowledge or an expressed interest.
● Experience in project management an asset.
