What you’ll do :
The Sales Agronomist plays a key role in delivering trusted agronomic advice to farm customers, creating, executing farm plans, and building strong relationships with growers, suppliers, and other industry partners. This position involves generating new business opportunities, maintaining existing customer relationships, selling agricultural inputs, performing scouting services, diagnostic support, and recommendations for fertility and crop protection. It is a sales‑focused role that integrates all core agronomic duties with a clear commitment to expanding market share. The sales agronomist will assist operationally, in-season, as needed.
The Sales Agronomist is expected to embody the Co-op Brand and foster positive, professional, and collaborative relationships with both colleagues and customers.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Living the Brand :
Consistently represent and uphold the Co-op brand by demonstrating Gardenland Co-op’s vision, mission, and values in all interactions.
Act as a Co-op ambassador with a strong understanding of the Cooperative Retailing System (CRS) and the cooperative business model.
Sales & Agronomy
Develop and administer a farm contact program with current and prospective customers, promoting the services and product lines available.
Cold call new clients, maintain relationships and connections with existing clients.
Provide information and advice on seed, weeds, disease, and insect control to growers.
Provide field scouting as requested and report findings to producer.
Analyze soil sample reports and provide recommendations to growers.
Manage all supplier programming to the benefit of growers and Co-op.
Assist in all areas of the operation, including blending fertilizer and manually loading product.
Purchasing, Sales, Marketing
Meet pre-established sales and margin budgets.
Be responsible for pricing, price checks, sales and inventory management of crop protection products by working with the Agro Manager and FCL Crop Supplies Sales Coordinator.
Participate in and support the Co-op Retailing System Programs.
As directed, provide suggestions to marketing for social media posts.
Coordinate information meetings and tours for growers, utilizing supplier support, to enhance Co-op ag awareness, credibility and involvement with key growers.
Promote finance programs, FCC and other Co-op approved programs.
Administration & Safety
Be responsible for safe handling, receiving and storage of crop protection products.
Maintain the Chemical Warehouse to CPI standards, including the audit process.
Ensure claims are written and submitted as per department procedure.
Be responsible for entering weekly records in the CRM program.
Follow Gardenland Co-op safety program and procedures.
Personal Development
Attend training seminars.
Attend supplier and research information day / tours where possible.
Pursue the CCA designation (if applicable).
Pursue P. Ag designation.
Qualifications
Degree or diploma in agriculture; preference given to agronomy or agri-business.
Valid class 5 license with a good driving record.
3-5 years’ experience in retail ag preferred.
Solid understanding of agribusiness, sales and agronomy.
Intermediate computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Strong interpersonal abilities, with a focus on ongoing connection and engagement with clients and prospects.
Ability to work long hours when required (in particular, during the spring seeding
