To add to this expertise, we are recruiting for a Planner / Estimator for our Winnipeg office location , to join our collaborative and team focused organization.

As our Planner / Estimator you will work with the Business Principal and key members of the Operations teams to develop the preliminary design, cost estimate, and proposal documentation.

Upon successful award of the project, you will work with the Project Manager to transfer contract information regarding the contractual, cost, and scope items necessary for the effective completion of the project.

You will also work with Planning Coordinators to assist with their overall development.

Position Overview :

Proposal Documentation

Assist the business development group to gain an understanding of the proposal requirements. Gathers necessary information to help develop the proposal concept and scope.

Brings forward innovative, cost-effective solutions by researching previous project data and utilizing in-house resources.

Prepares and issues requests for quotations, develops a base cost estimate and preliminary construction and labour schedules.

  • Participates in the preparation of the proposal documents , the contract documents , and / or the Letter of Authorization .
  • Completes any optional pricing, finalizes project costs, and cost codes the estimate . Works closely with Project Manager at handoff stage of a project to ensure a thorough and comprehensive rollout.
  • Chairs proposal review meetings and other meetings as required.

Leadership and Coaching

  • Effectively delegates proposal development tasks to Planning Coordinators and monitors their deliverables.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to Planning Coordinators to assist with their growth and development.

Qualifications Needed :

  • Education / training as a CET, or P.Eng / EIT , or relevant work experience . Post-secondary training that includes a strong technical component.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a planning or estimating role , specifically in the construction industry.
  • Previous field experience or experience working with mechanical agriculture equipment an asset .
  • Basic understanding of construction laws and contracts, insurance and bonding, and provincial taxation.
  • Proficiency with reading and interpreting construction drawings .
  • Critical thinking specifically targeting financial controls of project-based work.
  • Familiarity with standard construction processes / methodology and construction sequencing.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strict attention to detail and accuracy, as well as strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Creative thinker who seeks innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Good business acumen, understands financial aspects of construction.
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Excel and Project.

Some travel to worksites required.
