Reporting to the Supplier Quality Manager, the Quality at the Source (QATS) Engineer must partner with the Supply Chain Manager & the Development Engineering subject matter expert for their Supply Lane to plan and execute strategies aiming to ensure that all supplied components within their Supply Lane are ready to use when reaching internal or external customers.

They collaborate with regional SQEs to manage the overall global success of the Supply Lane with respect to good quality.

The QATS Engineer define & execute the quality strategy for their Supply Lane, in alignment with Global Supply Chain Lane strategy, including supplier selection, auditing and development, active performance management of suppliers within the lane, and they liase with other Quality functions to support closing the loop on quality issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / Areas of Accountability :

  • Collaborate with the global supply lane team to select and qualify new suppliers & new parts.
  • Collaborate with Development Engineering SME and Supply Chain Lane Leaders to improve quality performance, reduce quality risk and promote a "Quality first" mindset.
  • Build partnerships with key suppliers in the Supply Lane to identify & manage risks to Right First Time delivery.
  • Collaborate with SQEs on active management of the key suppliers in the lane, ensuring continuous monitoring & control of Supplier capabilities and performance.
  • Identify poor suppliers and collaborate with the Lane Owner and SME to replace and exit them.
  • Monitor changes affecting suppliers in the lane (product changes, new product introduction
  • Work with partners in the Quality Clinic to identify root causes of issues and introduce changes at the product or process level to prevent repeat issues at the source (corrective action).
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of methods & standards of the Supply Chain Quality Management System.

CRITICAL CAPABILITIES

  • Good understanding of Quality needs (e.g., what internal / external suppliers provide, what customers expect, and what performance measurement metrics are).
  • Deep understanding of Husky’s product design, standards and manufacturing technologies for a wide range of product types;

process engineering can be generic / agnostic of product.

  • Good communication skills, able to build a win-win relationship with Supplier, to manage ambiguity and get the best out of them with quality first in mind.
  • Good strategic planning and long shot execution and follow-up / monitoring.
  • Strategic mindset and approach of things - Forms tangible plans to address discrepancies based on a number of variables, recognizing the potential consequences or implications of situations, decisions, or actions.
  • Good technical understanding of Supplier's manufacturing, assembly, logistic processes - be able to evaluate sound of a process even without having a deep technical knowledge.

Able to identify and leverage subject matter experts.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION :

Engineering, Lean Six Sigma Certification or Six Sigma Black Belt is an asset

QUALIFICATION

  • 5- 10 years’ Quality / Project Management / Supply Chain experience.
  • Work experience in technical, supply chain or operations role with process development experience
  • Strong Quality background required

Experience

  • Experiences associated with small and large casting steel and machining, large steel part precision machining, and custom metal fabrication.
  • Experience in Metrology, specifically a good understanding of part inspection techniques, to include CMM
  • Machining process controls (control plans) and programming experience
  • Ownership, accountability and confidence to take decisions
  • Strong decision-making skills & ability to work in ambiguity
