As a Material Engineer Summer Student at our esteemed company, you will play a pivotal role in pushing the boundaries of material science through dedicated research and practical application.

This summer internship is designed for driven individuals keen on making significant strides in the study of Polyolefin materials, particularly their flame retardancy properties.

Your role will encompass a broad spectrum of responsibilities :

  • Conduct comprehensive research aimed at enhancing the flame retardancy of Polyolefin materials. This involves a thorough examination of existing studies, hypothesis development, and experimental design to assess the effectiveness of various flame-retardant solutions.
  • Undertake a series of meticulous laboratory tests to evaluate the flame retardancy, as well as the mechanical and chemical properties of Polyolefin samples.

You'll be hands-on in preparing specimens, operating laboratory equipment, and executing tests following strict protocols and safety measures.

  • Write and record of all experimental procedures, observations, and results, including the preparation of detailed reports, data visualization, and presentation of findings to the research team.
  • Update and maintaining databases with test results, inventory, and project schedules, ensuring data accuracy, security, and easy accessibility.
  • Assist in various supplementary tasks within the lab, ranging from material preparation and equipment calibration to supply organization and project support, ensuring the smooth operation of our research activities.

Education or Experience Requirements

To qualify for this enriching internship opportunity, candidates must meet the following educational and experiential criteria :

  • Must be a full-time student currently enrolled in a recognised Canadian university.
  • Should maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of a 4.0 scale, showcasing strong academic capabilities.
  • Familiarity with standards, laboratory testing methodologies, and safety protocols is essential.
  • Should have a strong foundation in polymers and polymer processing techniques, demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of the characteristics, applications, and manufacturing processes of various polymer materials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities are crucial, particularly in accurately documenting testing processes and findings.
  • High standards of professionalism and flexibility in adapting to shifting priorities are expected.
