Job Summary :

Reporting to the Manager, Education and Community Relations, the Community Patient Engagement Coordinator is responsible for coordinating community engagement projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing cancer control, outcomes, and patient and community experience in Manitoba.

Key principles of partnership and engagement , inclusion and co-development, will guide all aspects of this work and is demonstrated by working with our partners, communities, and patients in a balanced and collaborative way to advance projects, initiatives, and activities toward equitable cancer care access, experience and outcomes.

The Community and Patient Engagement Coordinator uses a health equity and community centered approach to cancer care and works closely with members of the Underserved Populations Program (UPP) team projects and others in applying evidence-based best practice to community engagement activities and initiatives.

This position will support the planning and execution of community engagement projects that inform quality, patient safety and learning.

This role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and manage relationships and partnerships to ensure the health needs of Manitobans are fulfilled compassionately and effectively.

The community engagement coordinator will support the project team in planning, organizing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating projects and initiatives.

Qualifications : Education

Education

Post secondary degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies or related discipline from an accredited educational institution.

Experience

  • 3 years of experience working with communities and culturally diverse populations
  • 3 years of experience with planning, implementing, managing and evaluating projects or programs
  • 2 years of experience in coordinating and facilitating virtual and in-person sessions for a diverse group of participants.
  • 2 years of experience developing and completing progress reports, project documents, and assist in project budget planning and reporting.

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of health equity and how it impacts patient care, experience and outcomes
  • Awareness of equity deserving populations at risk of not receiving adequate provision or access to cancer care such as but not limited to First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, newcomers, sexual and gender minorities, older adults, and individuals who are geographically isolated.
  • Ability to work independently, being self-directed; and, within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all levels of staff, patients, and the public.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including presenting to various audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and think critically.
  • Must have strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft word, Excel, and PowerPoint required

Preferred

  • Fluency in Cree, Dakota, Dene, Inuktitut, Michif, Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, or a language other than English
  • Ability to speak French
  • Experience with, and demonstrated understanding of, First Nations, Métis and Inuit health issues and experience in respectfully working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit partners and stakeholders
  • Experience working in and with communities and understanding of the rural health care environment
  • Experience providing Elder / Knowledge Keeper support
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and experience in educating adults
  • Knowledge of the cancer continuum, and cancer services
  • Previous experience writing grants and reports to funding agencies is considered an asset
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare environment is considered an asset
  • Experience working with web-based communications such as Teams and Zoom
  • Experience in designing promotional material such as posters

Required Licenses, Registrations, Designations

Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • May be required to travel throughout the service area requiring a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle.
  • May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Some travel may be required.
