Posted : Wednesday, December 10, 2025 Application Deadline : Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 11 : 59 pm The Opportunity The Parks and Forestry Branch is part of the City of Barrie’s Operations Department. The Branch is responsible for the management, maintenance, and ongoing care of over 3,100 acres of waterfront, parkland and open space including 127 parks and 145 kilometers of trails. Services include horticulture displays and maintenance, turf management, shoreline maintenance, maintenance of parks amenities such as playgrounds, play courts, picnic shelters, and spray pads, waste collection, landscape construction, City's outdoor rink program, greenhouse operations, trails maintenance, and winter snow removal operations. Under the general guidance and direction of the Parks Maintenance Technicians and Parks Maintenance Attendants, and reporting to the Parks Maintenance Foreperson, the Parks Labourer Summer Student is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of all City parks, playgrounds, right-of-way’s, and trails. Specifically, this position mows and trims turf, cleans and paints playgrounds and sport courts, assists with trail maintenance and construction, and assists in the removal and installation of park equipment and signs. Overall, this position plays an integral role in maintaining attractive and safe public spaces that enhance the quality of life for City of Barrie residents, visitors, and businesses. The Parks and Forestry Branch currently has a need to fill several student vacancies for four (4) months from May to August 2026. Please note that successful candidates may be assigned to either Parks Maintenance or Waterfront Operations.
