Job descriptionVarious locations Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions Load and unload goods Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment Perform brake adjustments Perform emergency roadside repairs Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle Perform preventive maintenance Receive and relay information to central dispatch Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo Transport and handle dangerous goods Air Brake (Z) Endorsement Driver's License (Class 1 or A) Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate Dangerous goods occurrence reports Driver logbook Trans-border documentation Trip reports International Long-haul Provincial / territorial Attention to detail Physically demanding Sitting Efficient interpersonal skills Flexibility Judgement Organized Reliability Team player Dental plan Health care plan Commission
