Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY : Under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager and as part of the interdisciplinary team, supports the resident’s non-medical needs by working collaboratively with the Personal Support Workers and Therapeutic Recreationists to support the activities of daily living, inclusive of the resident’s social and emotional needs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team by assisting in meeting the physical, emotional and social needs of the residents, as per their individual plan of care.
- Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, and ensures that they are engaged and participating in meaningful activities.
- Assists in answering call bells and responds to resident requests, excluding those that are for hygienic or physical personal care;
and seeks out the most responsible person to respond to a call if they are not available.
- Assists the Personal Support Workers and / or Therapeutic Recreationists with physical or hands on care, as assigned.
- Assists with the delivery of meals and nutrition snacks.
- Assists residents with meal set up, eating, drinking, and clean up, as directed and required.
- Ensures proper recording of resident intake and fluid consumption on individual resident records.
- Provides assistance with spotting or standby for mechanical resident transfers.
- Assists with bed making and tidying resident rooms, ensuring all personal items are clean, labelled and properly put away and stored.
- Assists residents to and from activities; including outdoor walks and outings as required.
- Assists with virtual visits and calls to families and friends, as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education / Experience :
Secondary school graduation
Skills / Abilities :
- A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the elderly is necessary
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Ability to exercise independent judgement when dealing with confidential or sensitive issues
- Must be able to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Proven ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently
Assets :
- Diploma or certificate in personal support worker, social services, human services
- Experience working in long term care and / or with seniors
- Experience working in customer service and / or hospitality
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
- Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
- Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at point of conditional offer
- Prior to commencing employment, will be required to review and attest / affirm to all Pioneer Ridge Staff Immunization Policies
- Must have successfully undergone a "two step" tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment
- Prior to commencing employment, must undergo a successful Offence & Professional Misconduct Declaration Process
- Must successfully complete all mandatory training as required by the Corporation on an annual basis
