Job Description

Our client in the Healthcare industry is seeking an Infection Prevention and Control Professional to join their team. Reporting to the Manager of Infection Prevention and Control, the IPC Professional will be a subject matter expert, supporting the organization in all IPC initiatives, and helping to manage and resolve outbreaks.

PLEASE NOTE : This role is onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient charts to find evidence of infections, communicable diseases, and clusters of infections.
  • Monitoring patients and their medical data to identify infections, communicable diseases, and other health risks that could affect others.
  • Provide ongoing infection surveillance and auditing to ensure that appropriate precautions are taken, report inefficiencies to clinical staff, and investigate cases and breaches of infection prevention and control (IPAC).
  • Assist in the collation and provision of information for reports written and presented to the Infection Prevention & Control Committee, collect information on reportable diseases, and investigate and direct staff or visitor intervention necessary to prevent transmission of infection.
  • Respond to educational needs by participating in the planning, development, and dissemination of education / educational materials to staff, patients, and families, and provide just-in-time and ongoing education to ensure that appropriate infection prevention and control policies are being followed.
  • Provide ad-hoc education to staff, patients, and families, provide direction to clinical staff and physicians, and participate in professional education programs.
  • Primary resource person for infection prevention & control issues, the employee will work collaboratively with the IPC team and other staff to provide optimal patient care, evaluate practices, monitor infections, and report inefficiencies to the appropriate clinical manager / supervisor and to the IPC team.
  • Act as a consultant on infection prevention & control issues and concerns for all areas of the organization.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with all team members, notify the manager of IPC and IPC Coordinator of reportable communicable diseases, provide written quarterly reports to IPC Manager, and attend Infection Prevention & Control and other relevant meetings.
  • Assist in incorporating appropriate research findings into practice, ensure the identification of infection control issues is addressed in policy, procedure, and protocol development throughout the organization, and participate in developing new infection prevention & control policies with the IPC Manager and IPC Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years experience in a clinical health setting.
  • Two full-time equivalent years in Infection Prevention & Control or five years experience in a clinical health care setting and at least 80 hours of IPAC Canada-endorsed infection prevention & control courses.
  • Professional designation (RN or equivalent)
  • Certification in Infection Prevention & Control (CIC) is required within five years of hire and is to be maintained.
  • Experience and / or training in the principles of adult education is an asset.
  • Bilingual (French / English) is considered a strong asset.
