Assistant / Associate Professor - Tourism Management Department

APPPOINTMENT TYPE : Tenure-track, Tri-Partite

LOCATION : Kamloops, BC, Canada

Thompson Rivers University campuses are on the traditional lands of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc (Kamloops campus) and the T’exelc (Williams Lake campus) within Secwépemc'ulucw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc people.

Our region also extends into the territories of the Stat’imc, Nlaka’pamux, Nuxalk, Tsilh’qotin, Dakelh, and Métis peoples.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Faculty of Adventure, Culinary Arts and Tourism (FACT) at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant / Associate Professor in the Tourism Management Department.

This is a tri-partite tenure-track position based in the Kamloops campus that involves teaching, research, and service with a preferred starting date of July 2nd, 2024.

The Tourism Management Department is one of three departments within FACT and offers degree, diploma and post-baccalaureate programs in tourism.

The department aims to prepare graduates who :

  • Understand the breadth of tourism experiences
  • Will contribute to environmentally, socially and economically sustainable tourism
  • Recognize the importance of tourism to community development, and
  • Have the skills to provide quality experiences in the realm of tourism and can develop and manage tourism businesses with an entrepreneurial spirit

The Department encourages applications from candidates committed to life-long learning, excellence in research, teaching and learning, with a disciplinary background in the social sciences or business and who have interests in, knowledge of, and professional experience in one or more sectors of tourism.

Candidates should demonstrate the potential to :

  • Develop a productive research program
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research
  • Serve as role models for students and provide them with mentorship
  • Assume leadership roles within the Tourism Management Department
  • Develop and deliver research-informed and high-impact learning experiences in both introductory and senior level courses
  • Teach in one or more of the of the areas covered by our programs
  • Contribute to Indigenization and decolonization objectives

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD / Doctorate in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching
  • Research excellence demonstrated by an active and productive research program
  • Commitment to service across the following areas : department, university, academic discipline, and broader community
  • Professional experience in one or more tourism sectors represented in our programs is an asset

WHAT TRU OFFERS

Placement on the Salary Scale is in accordance with the Collective Agreement between TRU and TRU Faculty Association (TRUFA).

This position offers an annual Professional Development Allowance, participation in a Defined Benefit Pension Plan and 100% employer paid benefits, which includes extended health and dental, sick leave, and short term and long-term disability.
