As a Civil Designer , you will join our Guelph or Mississauga, Ontario office as part of our Eastern Surface Water – Infrastructure team. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of all stages of the design process from concept to detailed design and construction), produce engineered drawings such as site plans, plans and profiles, cross-sections, excavation diagrams, and assist in the interpretation of survey data resulting in the final product of a technical report and / or drawing package. As a team member, you will take responsibility for quality control and completing peer reviews by adhering to company standards and project specific constraint documentation. Responsibilities are as follows :

Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design drawings of municipal infrastructure storm sewer and stormwater management facilities), erosion improvements, and natural channel design

Develop, revise and update project design criteria documentation and material quantities

Provide QA / QC for in-progress and completed designs, drawings and figures

Review survey data to calculate construction quantities and complete record / as-built drawings

Provide input and collaborate to address gaps, identify priorities, and improve the way we do our work

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current Provincial, Municipal, and client specific engineering and CAD standards

Coordinate with clients, municipalities, agencies and sub-consultants to facilitate / expedite design completion

Collaborate with project scientists and engineers to provide a variety of drawing packages using AutoCAD Civil 3D software

Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, regulations, standards, drawings and project specifications

Produce and review clearly documented and detailed material quantity estimates

Interpret field notes and work with digital field returns such as, site photography, UAV imagery, and survey information

Be a key resource in developing others within the civil design discipline; tasks may include providing feedback and mentorship and identifying strategies for skill development among others

What We Are Looking For

Minimum 5 years of civil design experience in a fast-paced, client and team-focused environment is preferred

An Engineering Design and Drafting Technology Diploma or related field

Previous experience in a consulting engineering environment would be considered an asset

Highly proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D

Experience with GIS and related software (ArcGIS, GlobalMapper, QGIS) would be considered an asset

Knowledge or experience with MicroStation, Autoturn (or equivalent), or BIM related tools (Navisworks) are desirable but not mandatory

Knowledge or experience with real-time kinematic (RTK) survey processes, procedures, and data incorporation is desirable

Knowledge or experience with river modelling software HEC-RAS), and specifically importing and exporting CAD data to this software is desirable

Self-motivated individual possessing effective communication skills (both oral and written)

Mentor and provide leadership in a team environment

Ability to prioritize deadlines, track status and facilitate progress on multiple projects

Strong organization and prioritization skills

Ability to be flexible, as work deadlines are client-driven

Possess a valid class G driver’s license
