Job description

Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is looking for an Instrumentation Specialist to join their team on a 1-year contract in Fort Saskatchewan, AB.

An Instrumentation Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems within a petrochemical facility. This role ensures that all instrumentation and control systems are functioning efficiently and safely, contributing to the overall productivity and safety of the plant.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Install and commission new instrumentation and control systems.
  • Ensure all installations comply with industry standards and plant specifications.
  • Perform regular maintenance and calibration of instrumentation equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all instrumentation systems.
  • Diagnose and repair instrumentation and control system malfunctions.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of all instrumentation work, including maintenance logs, calibration records, and repair reports.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on system performance and any issues encountered.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Participate in safety audits and contribute to the development of safety procedures.
  • Provide technical support during plant startups, shutdowns, and turnarounds.
  • Assist in the development of training programs for plant personnel on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Identify opportunities for improving instrumentation and control processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to implement process improvements and upgrades.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications in instrumentation and control systems are a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instrumentation within the petrochemical or related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and HMI.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
