Nanaimo, BC is located on the east coast of Vancouver Island, 113 km north of Victoria, and 55 km across the Strait of Georgia from Vancouver.

We are currently looking for a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Nanaimo, B.C. office. This is an opportunity to work with world-class engineers and scientists dedicated to working on civil and geotechnical engineering projects, from conceptual design to construction reporting.

Tetra Tech is an industry leader in areas such as geotechnical site investigations for small and large projects including municipal infrastructure (roadways, bridges, LRT expansion, and buildings), linear infrastructure (pipelines, power lines, rail lines) embankment stability, deep foundations, and undertaking dam safety reviews.

This position will provide the opportunity to work on projects related to government and private infrastructure sites, oil and gas fields, and dam sites.

The salary range for this position is $70K to $77K per annum. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to : education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

Some of the Responsibilities You May Have :

  • Conducting geotechnical investigations for foundations of commercial, industrial, high-rise developments, and linear infrastructure (roadways, pipelines, transmission lines).
  • Undertaking construction monitoring including pile monitoring and material placement.
  • Evaluating geologic conditions and geotechnical characteristics for assessment in the design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures and earth structures.
  • Completing shallow and deep foundation designs.
  • Conducting slope stability and embankment assessments including field instrumentation (slope inclinometers and piezometers).
  • Conducting dam safety reviews and completing remediation designs.
  • Analyzing field data and preparing detailed engineering reports and recommendations.
  • Preparing proposals, budgeting and scheduling of technical field staff.
  • Communicating with clients, sub-consultants, and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications that Would Make You a Great Candidate :

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in civil or geological engineering with a preference for a Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering.
  • 0-2 years of relevant geotechnical engineering and foundation design experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Travel will be required in this position. Candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments and must be physically capable of performing the required field duties.
  • Must possess a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).
  • Eligible for registration as an EGBC Engineer-In-Training.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Additional Information

A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship (a copy of a valid work permit may be required).
