Reporting to the Manager, Feeder & Piping Engineering, Materials, Welding & Chemistry, Materials will work in on material and welding related work providing support to major refurbishment projects in nuclear field.

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team :

  • May be required to lead a team to Involve in all material and welding evaluations for conceptual, preliminary and / or detailed design of CANDU or Nuclear reactor components, piping and process systems and modifications.
  • Perform materials and welding related work in an engineering environment and prepare technical documents following AtkinsRéalis / CANDU Energy QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and (regulation) regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support and collaborate with other entities including laboratories, and other third parties.
  • Perform complex assignments independently or under limited supervision of a senior Metallurgist, analyst, or engineer.
  • May be required to develop and deliver presentations to communicate status, problem resolution or promote related reactor components and Balance of plant equipment.
  • Coordinate and interface with client, suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines or department to execute assigned engineering work.
  • Specification, design, development (pre-production qualification), assessment and manufacturing of reactor components and materials to meet the needs of existing stations.
  • Provide support to major refurbishment projects, and new builds for nuclear power plants in Canada and aboard as they relate to material considerations.
  • Provide support to utility operations for resolution of plant operational problems as they relate to material considerations; and
  • Complete assigned scope of work and or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.

The Ideal Candidate :

  • Engineering degree or graduate degree related to Materials Engineering, including courses and / or work experience in materials applications.
  • Engineering degree from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • 10 years of related work experience in materials engineering, NDE, and welding with specialization in nuclear power plant environments.
  • Basic knowledge of CANDU mechanical and process systems, structures and components is an asset.
  • Prior experience working in a lab / testing environment would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of CSA N285.6 and ASME Section II / III / V / IX codes and any other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and / or reactor systems is preferred.
  • Must be able to apply technical principles in a logical and practical manner to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Self initiative to perform research and gather information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including considering the plans of others.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent Computer skills (Word, Excel) and,
  • Willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
