Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist & Team Lead

Job Profile
The EHS Specialist & Team Lead will manage programs and projects that promote workplace safety and environmental compliance across the organization. This role involves developing and implementing safety training, procedures, and emergency response plans, while ensuring adherence to OHSA regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, develop and evaluate company‑wide safety programs including training and procedures under the direction of the EHS Manager.
- Plan, manage and execute projects with internal and external stakeholders related to workplace safety, occupational hygiene, audits, and environmental compliance.
- Maintain awareness of amendments to OHSA and related regulations and recommend implementation.
- Lead investigation and root‑cause analysis of workplace incidents, develop corrective actions, prepare WSIB and MLTSD reports, and facilitate external communication.
- Monitor and develop reports on KPI metrics, incident trends, and hazardous waste generation; propose actions to address gaps.
- Develop and coordinate emergency response plans and conduct drills.
- Lead and participate in risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Coach participants in workplace inspections and safety investigations.
- Ensure the functionality of the Joint Health and Safety Committee as required by legislation.
- Research occupational safety information to adopt best practices and minimize hazards.
- Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet local, provincial, and federal OHSA requirements.
- Schedule staff work and monitor timelines to meet targets and achieve departmental and company goals.
Support and Drive Continuous Improvement (CI)
Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in specific CI projects and the establishment of Standardized Work.Promote a continuous improvement culture.Perform Other Duties
Perform additional duties and complete projects as assigned.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with Chemistry knowledge.6–10 years of experience in safety, environmental, or compliance with an understanding of OHS management systems, standards, and regulatory requirements.CRSP designation is an asset.Competencies Required
