IEM is currently seeking a Fabrication Supervisor to join our fabrication team in Metal fab or Bus fab departments. This role is ideal for a safety-focused leader with hands‑on experience in fabrication, team supervision, and lean manufacturing within a fast-paced production environment. The successful candidate will be passionate about driving quality, efficiency, and team development.
Please note : This position requires 100% in‑office presence in our Surrey offices and does not offer remote work. This role will report into the Director of Operations, Fabrication.
Responsibilities
Safety Compliance
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with all IEM safety policies and protocols.
- Use Safety Amp, SharePoint, or other software to conduct and report safety investigations as per HSE and WCB requirements.
- Ensure team leads train staff on safety procedures and safe work practices; participate in investigations to prevent recurrences.
- Conduct hazard analyses to monitor and maintain safe work practices.
- Collaborate with EHS and maintain accurate records of all safety‑related training, including respirator fit testing, WHMIS, forklift certification, and other required training.
Planning and Scheduling
Utilize UKG Workforce Management to monitor timecards, activities, and approve PTO / UTO submissions for the fabrication team.Ensure leads complete jobs according to production schedules.Communicate any delays in the production schedule to the planner and manager.Assess capacity issues promptly and communicate findings to the manager.Quality Control and Process Management
Conduct random inspections of completed products to ensure compliance with quality standards; address defects promptly.Work with leads to identify and implement solutions for recurring quality issues.Participate in developing, validating, and implementing processes that ensure safe, high‑quality production. Implement 5S improvements wherever possible and ensure leads maintain these standards.Team Supervision and Performance
Supervise a team of Leads and assemblers, including performance evaluations, coaching, and resolving personnel issues.Organize shift schedules to maintain production schedules and communicate any inadequate staffing levels to your supervisor.Material and Equipment Management
Manage inventory of stock, ensuring proper material usage and minimizing waste.Communicate with supply chain to coordinate material transfers or acquisition of raw materials to prevent shortages.Maintain adequate consumables and tools to reduce downtime due to wear and planned maintenance.Hiring, Performance and Development
Conduct interviews and recommend hires to maintain appropriate staffing levels.Build strong relationships with leads and support their leadership development through coaching and performance reviews.Create and implement training documentation and work procedures to ensure proper onboarding and skill development.Document policy violations when coaching and reminders are ignored.Gather feedback from leads on individual performance and conduct quarterly / annual reviews as required.Key Performance Indicators
Host and maintain Tier 2 Daily Management Board meetings.Attend Tier 1 Daily Management Board meetings.Ensure accurate collection of daily management board data.Perform additional duties as required by your manager.Requirements
Bachelor degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Supply Chain or a related degree. Five years of additional relative experience, including demonstrated leadership, in lieu of a degree will also be considered.Minimum 2 years of experience in Switchgear Mechanical Assembly, Fabrication, or Process Engineering, preferably in a Level 5 or Lead Hand position.Proven ability to manage and motivate a team of 40+ personnel preferred.Proficient in interpreting mechanical drawings, BOM (Bill of Materials), and basic wiring diagrams.Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts in a fast‑paced environment.Familiarity with company policies and a positive attitude toward safety compliance.Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.Demonstrated ability to foster positive interpersonal relationships and encourage collaborative problem‑solving.Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, etc.).Compensation actually offered for this role will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and / or long‑term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
Compensation Range : CAD $38.46 - $55.30 / hr
