Role Description

The primary focus is Traffic Signal and / or Roadway Lighting design for transportation facilities and the successful candidate will work with technical staff to prepare preliminary and detailed traffic / intersection design drawings, estimates, specifications, and proposals. You will also assist in preparing reports as to the nature, status and results of design or study assignments.

This role will also include working on client relationship building and management, including taking part in business development activities, proposal preparation, organizing staff resources, establishing project budgets and schedules. You will communicate effectively with clients and internal team members (Engineers, Architects, Designers and Project Managers) in the design and specification development of electrical, lighting and communications systems projects within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team.

Role Accountabilities

The successful candidate will lead and contribute to the successful design, production, coordination and management of Roadway Illumination and Traffic Signal projects. As Engineer‑of‑Record, you will coordinate with Utility and Roadway agencies on all technical fronts in terms of developing traffic signal / intersection and roadway illumination designs in AutoCAD and / or Microstation such as layout, equipment details, and photometrics.

As may be separately directed by other Electrical Engineers / Managers, you may assist developing deliverables such as wiring diagrams, power calculations, and electrical engineering designs compliant with ESA codes or relevant acts / standards.

Under this capacity, you will also render utility coordination duties as they relate to roadway illumination and traffic signal projects including the preparation of technical reports, tender documentation and field support (including commissioning, traffic signal turn‑on, and site inspection).

This person will verify or validate that engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices, review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA / QC programs and ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality including engineering stamped drawings and preparing final reports. Additionally, as Project Reviewer or Project Manager, you will render program‑management services for a series of major and small size projects.

Qualifications & Experience

• Completed Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Traffic / Civil Engineering
• 10 years relevant experience in roadway illumination and intersection / traffic signal design, ideally in a design‑consulting or utility environment.
• Must have or be eligible for the P. Eng. designation in Ontario
• Must be proficient with AutoCAD and Microstation
• Proficient with AGI 32 and RP‑8 is a must
• Working knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (Book 12, 15, 5, & 7), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM), RP‑8 (latest version), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Canada (MUTCDC), and Technical Manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada
• A valid driver's license and vehicle is required
• Experience with O.Reg 22 / 04 certification and liaising with utility authorities
• Experience with pole loading software i.e. SPIDAcalc or equivalent is an asset
• Experience performing site inspections, construction supervision and contract administration under the above context
• Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team delivering various complex projects with large size and scope
• Experience working on MTO Minor and Major Electrical projects
• Major RAQS qualified is an asset
