Sr. Soil and Contaminated Sites Specialist
We are seeking a Senior Soil and Contaminated Sites Specialist with over 10 years of experience in providing scientific and technical interpretation related to soil and contaminated site remediation and risk management in a regulatory capacity in Alberta.
Reporting directly to the Operations Leader, you will play a crucial role in collaborating with Strategic Account Managers, site supervisors, and report drafters to achieve targeted goals.
The ideal candidate will have a strong familiarity with Alberta's regulatory framework and possess a Professional Agrologist designation.
Aptitudes
- Strong technical expertise in risk assessment, groundwater assessments, and remediation methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven experience in senior technical review and oversight of environmental projects.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently to meet project deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide innovative technical solutions.
- Adaptability to changing project requirements and priorities.
- Experience : Minimum of 5 years of environmental oil and gas experience
- Regulatory Knowledge : In-depth knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and standards.
- Certification : Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST) certification
- Designation : Professional Agrologist
- Education : A degree in environmental science, soil science, geology, hydrogeology, or related field.
Key Accountabilities
Expert Technical Leadership :
- Provide strategic and expert technical advice on environmental issues, including collaboration with client and key stakeholders when required.
- Develop and support client programs, improve internal standardization, review client expectations, and manage program activities.
- Participate in the development of program activities and technical guidance documents, resulting in program effectiveness.
- Develop and implement technical standards and processes for assessment and remediation programs, aiming for a 95% adoption rate of new standards.
- Prepare technical correspondence, reports, work plans, and project specifications, with 100% of reports meeting quality standards.
- Keep up-to-date with environmental regulations and best practices, ensuring 100% compliance with relevant regulations.
- Interpret field data and provide cost-effective technical solutions, with 80% of solutions leading to cost savings or improved outcomes.
Mentorship & Quality Control
- Check the work of others for accuracy and completeness, report technical challenges, and ensure quality control in reporting, aiming for 100% error detection and successful resolution of technical challenges.
- Collaborate with project teams and junior staff, providing mentorship and guidance to improve team competency and performance by 20% within a year.
- Ensure that project deadlines and cost models meet client expectations. Aim to complete at least 95% of projects on time and within budget.
In cases where further discovery leads to scope or budget changes, communicate effectively with the Strategic Account Manager (SAM).
