And this is where you come in…As a User Interface Technical Designer , you are responsible for implementing, animating, and optimizing UI systems in the game engine. You partner with UX designers and UI artists to translate layouts, motion intent, and visual style into functional, performant, and player-facing UI. You ensure a high visual quality bar in the engine, manage UI performance and scalability, and use animation, scripting, and VFX to bring interfaces to life. You help define and maintain UI standards, pipelines, and technical workflows across the project.
You can expect to be responsible for :
- Work hands-on, in-engine to implement UX / UI prototypes and designs of the game team’s ideas.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team of designers, artists, programmers, and producers to create exciting moments, celebrations, and satisfying interactions for the user interface.
- Setup UI and menu elements feedback, behavior, and animations.
- Work with and implement industry leading techniques for motion graphics and vfx in mobile games and improve internal tools and structure.
- Collaborate with engineers, game designers, UX designers, and production to define technical requirements.
- Identify gaps in designs and technical constraints.
- Supports creative and technical solutions / iteration.
- Maintain best practices and keep control of asset integration in respects to our technical constraints and optimization guidelines.
Your background includes :
QualificationsEducation background in Interaction Design, Art, Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience.Experience2+ years of experience as a professional User Interface Technical Designer, VFX Artist, Technical Motion Designer.Strong understanding of Motion Graphics and how it relates to Interaction Design.A portfolio demonstrating effective solutions for visual and technical problems.Solid understanding of timeline based animation tools.Experience with real-time engines (e.g. Unity, Unreal).Contributes to creative and technical solutions.Proven track record of working independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team setting.Knowledge of UI technical best practices (on Console, PC, or Mobile).Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Ability to prototype shaders.Experience in writing tools for UI.Nice to havesExperience with Unity GUI or NGUI frameworkSolid understanding of C#Experience with 3D tools (example : Maya, 3DS Max, etc…).Experience with Design Systems$42 - $52 an hourThe typical hiring range listed above is specific to candidates located in Vancouver .
