Job description

SCOPE OF POSITION

The responsibility of the Industrial Control Technician is to ensure the proper functioning of the electronic control systems present on our production equipment and / or auxiliary systems. Participates in the opportunity analysis of continuous improvements.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical support to production, while training users on the best use of existing equipment.
  • Conduct continuous improvement projects to improve KPI’s and overall efficiencies.
  • Maintain all technical documentation related to equipment and systems (schematics, work instructions, manuals, etc.)
  • Perform preventative maintenance and report in EAM
  • Conduct daily system inspections to ensure electrical components are functioning properly.
  • Communicate regularly with the Maintenance Purchasing Specialist on electrical parts in inventory.
  • Submit daily reports to Maintenance Manager.
  • Participate in conferences / training in order to increase the knowledge and skills.
  • Provide technical support of existing drive systems and troubleshoot / repair machine breakdowns.
  • Provide training to Maintenance Mechanics to improve troubleshooting skills.
  • Provide technical support to upgrade obsolete PLC systems and VFD motor drives to newer technologies.
  • Assist in assuring HACCP, GMP’s, Work Instructions and Food Safety Quality system requirements (SQF) are in compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 5 to 7 years PLC programming experience and degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent certification
  • 309A or 442A certification is a requirement.
  • SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC’s / controls / protocols platforms.
  • Proficient troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of VFD motors and motor controllers.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports for documenting issues / changes to equipment.
  • Ability to implement changes and improvements.
  • Stay up-to-date and skilled in the newer technology.
