The Vice President, Stakeholder Affairs and Government Relations,

is a Toronto-based position reporting to the President of the Canadian Beverage Association.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Educational Requirements :

Master's degree preferred - business and / or public policy.

Experience :

  • Association leadership experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in government relations.
  • 5+ years working for either a provincial or federal government.
  • 10+ years working at a VP level.
  • 10+ years managing a team.
  • 10+ years developing and implementing integrated government relations plans including media relations, stakeholder mapping and engagement, communications.
  • Sustainability experience a plus.
  • Board of Directors experience a plus.
  • French language skills a plus.

Travel Requirements : 50% of time.

Reporting Relationship : reports to President.

Direct Reports :

Team consisting of multiple consultant experts, Director of Government Relations and Director of Communications and Public Affairs.

Role Requirements :

The Vice President will lead a team of government relations professionals and communicators who will work collaboratively with CBA members public affairs professionals to create a persuasive, bipartisan, and impactful public policy and public affairs agenda while effectively communicating CBA's mission and accomplishments to both internal membership and external stakeholder audiences.

In this role, the Vice President will collaborate across departments and with the President to form and successfully advance the Association's public policy and communications agenda.

Through attention to detail, inevitable changes and unforeseeable developments will be handled professionally with an unruffled demeanor and communicated effectively to everyone involved.

As the needs of CBA's membership, and stakeholders are learned, the Vice President will have both opportunity and an expectation to provide valuable input on processes, procedures, agendas, future events, and budgets.

Working with the President as well as the CBA staff, the Vice President will be responsible for the ongoing supervision and leadership of the CBA's advocacy efforts-including policy agenda formation and operationalization.

The public policy and communications plans will be fully integrated strategic plans including stakeholder management, data gathering and sharing, key contact plans, coalition management with an ability to be nimble as the policy environment changes.

Working with the President as well as with direct reports, the Vice President is responsible for the successful management and growth of the team, including goal setting, team building, and ongoing performance management of the team.

Working with the President as well as with the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, the Vice President is responsible for the successful formation, management and execution of a robust membership and stakeholder communications program that is closely coordinated with the public policy agenda when appropriate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Vice President, Public Affairs and Government Relations duties will include :

  • Leading on developing strategies to protect, mitigate and promote our industry's reputation enabling a competitive and innovative industry.
  • Assessing the political and policy landscape, as well as potential future political developments, to devise strategic positioning for the association.
  • Crafting the association's policy advocacy strategies and overseeing their execution by directing the federal / provincial affairs team in coordination with member company government affairs professionals.
  • Accountability for managing government relations budgets / agency network.
  • Establishing and maintaining a sophisticated network of contacts among key legislators and staff as well as other associations and key stakeholders.
  • Accountability for the managing and governance of the Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs).
  • Representing the Association and its Membership on Parliament Hill and Provincial Parliaments.
  • Participating in the quarterly board meetings for updates and input from board members.
  • Leading the Public Affairs and Regulatory Committee of CBA.
  • Performance management of team.
