POSITION TYPE TERM (March 31, 2027), FULL-TIME

Background: The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre is seeking an individual for the Community Helper position for the Wi Che Win Program. This is an integral part of our homelessness model. The successful candidate will work intensively with participants to determine eligibility for services in the programs. The incumbent must have strong assessment skills. This position reports directly to the Wi Che Win Program Manager.

Duties/Expectations:

• Develop and maintain constructive and effective contacts in the service systems that provide assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Provide accurate and useful information and support to persons for information on resources/services for those experiencing being homeless.
• Establish effective community relations relevant to the program.
• Develop clear work processes for moving people through intake.
• Provide information sessions about the program to our relatives.
• Plan and Develop programming and activities.
• Collaborate with networks.
• Ability to work under stressful situations.
• Understanding of Indigenous values.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Needs to have the ability to work cooperatively with others and contribute as a team member.
• Demonstrate experience in developing and maintaining an effective working relationship with indigenous participants.
• Must have a valid Manitoba Driver’s License.
• Monthly Reporting.

Qualifications:

• An emphasis on assessment and meeting the needs of vulnerable populations, which may include such disciplines and fields of study as social work, rehabilitation practitioner, and community development.
• A minimum of three years of experience in case management, community outreach, mental health, addictions, or housing programs in a front-line capacity is preferred.
• Exposure to or direct work history with principles of evidence-based practices, relationship/ client centered approach, housing first principles, and harm reduction models.
• Prior experience on meeting the needs of vulnerable populations relative to housing is preferred.
• Prior work with Indigenous cultures is preferred.
• Mental Health First Aid; Standard First Aid and CPR; Non- Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification preferred.
• Valid driver's license, clear driver's abstract, and access to a vehicle for work-related duties are required.
• Must provide current (within the last three months) criminal record with Vulnerable Sector Query, Child Abuse Registry check and be subject to Prior Contact Check.
