The Cascade Power Project is a cutting-edge 900-megawatt combined-cycle power generation facility. Powered by natural gas and equipped with two Siemens SCC6-8000H Power Trains, the plant boasts modern and highly efficient industrial turbines. Set to commence operations in early 2024, this facility represents a significant stride towards sustainable and technologically advanced energy production in the region.
Opportunity Summary
The IC&E Technician is responsible for the maintenance of instrumentation, controls, and electrical (IC&E) equipment at the Cascade Power Project. This role includes corrective, preventive, predictive, and restoration maintenance programs for the facility, as well as supporting Operations and Maintenance Technicians within a cross-functional team. The IC&E Technician executes assigned IC&E work, including the development and support of maintenance plans (PMs), work order planning and scheduling, and coordination of the safe and effective execution of work within the assigned area of responsibility. The role requires proficiency in maintenance workflow processes, material identification and selection, and a thorough understanding of inventory and work management systems within an industrial environment. The IC&E Technician is skilled in the use of CMMS (Maximo) and has experience leading projects and managing contractors. Through the application of safe, effective maintenance techniques and best practices, the IC&E Technician ensures facility reliability and availability objectives are achieved.
Primary Functions
- Achieves incentive program goals by ensuring equipment reliability meets established performance targets.
- Contributes to a high level of customer satisfaction through consistent delivery of high-quality workmanship.
- Collaborates with Operations and Maintenance Managers to develop and achieve O&M plan objectives.
- Owns the performance of assigned tasks, including work planning and coordination of required contractors and suppliers.
- Builds and maintains effective working relationships with key contractors, and supports their selection, qualification, and on-site execution of work.
- Participates in the development of plant operating and maintenance budgets.
- Promotes positive community relations by demonstrating and upholding NAES corporate policies and values.
- Drives continuous improvement of preventive maintenance programs by identifying gaps and updating PMs, job plans, maintenance procedures, and job hazard assessments.
- Contributes technical input and feedback during the planning of major maintenance projects.
- Manages assigned work and projects during planned maintenance outages to ensure safe execution, schedule adherence, budget compliance, and high-quality outcomes.
- Demonstrates pride of ownership for facility tools and equipment, preserving their condition and long-term value.
- Recommends tooling enhancements to improve efficiency and overall work effectiveness.
- Assists in the development of risk management plans through applied knowledge of equipment and maintenance practices.
- Ensures all work is performed in accordance with the highest corporate Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) standards.
- Maintains safety and environmental monitoring equipment, including CEMS, to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
- Applies a thorough understanding of inventory systems and procedures to support stocking decisions and maintain accurate planning and issuing records.
- Demonstrates strong working knowledge of field-based instrumentation, PLCs, and their integration with DCS systems, across simple to complex measurement applications.
- Performs instrument calibration, diagnostics, and testing using precision measuring equipment, pressure control devices, and safety systems.
- Reviews assigned procedures and provided recommendations for improvement based on technical expertise and operational experience.
- Complies with Alberta Reliability Standards by fulfilling maintenance responsibilities required to meet regulatory obligations.
- Contributes to the development of quality assurance standards within the area of expertise and supports audits, inspections, and assessments for continuous improvement.
- Applies working knowledge of the chart of accounts to ensure transactions are correctly charged to appropriate accounts, cost codes, and work orders.
- Adheres to purchasing guidelines in accordance with Cascade procedures.
- Utilizes organizational IT systems effectively, including CMMS (Maximo) and document management systems, for daily operations and historical recordkeeping.
- Prepares and delivers accurate, timely information for internal and external reporting requirements.
- Maintains plant security awareness by monitoring conditions and reporting potential breaches in real time.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Working Relationships
The IC&E Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and takes general direction from the Plant Manager. Additionally, the IC&E Technician coordinates with all other plant personnel as needed in the daily operation of the plant.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Power plant environment which entails working conditions that may include extreme hot or cold temperatures, confined spaces, working at extreme heights and on grating, and working around heavy equipment, pressurized, and energized equipment. Both indoor and outdoor work are part of the job requirements. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 23kg.
Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Respirator qualified required.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position follows a 9 / 80 work schedule, consisting of 80 hours worked over nine days in a two-week period, with one regularly scheduled day off every other week. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.
Job Qualifications
Education and Certifications / Licenses
Possesses extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in the maintenance of power generation or related industrial equipment and holds a Red Seal Journeyman Instrumentation certification; dual-ticket Red Seal Journeyman Instrumentation / Electrical certification is strongly preferred. A related technology certification is considered an asset.Candidates must possess a valid, unrestricted Canadian driver’s licence and maintain it in good standing at all times.Experience & Attributes
Minimum 3 years’ work experience in power generation or related large industrial facilities.Experience with instrumentation, controls, and electrical equipment inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and refurbishment. Experience with control systems preferred.Knowledge of wide variety of equipment through combination of hands-on experience and formal training. CEMS equipment experience preferred.Knowledge and demonstrated ability to safely operate hand and powered tools, test and calibration equipment, and facility mobile equipment and tooling.Knowledge and experience with CMMS (Maximo), and work management in a large industrial facility.Knowledge and demonstrated ability to order materials and follow warehouse procedures.Experience in leading projects, contractors, and or contractor crews.Must be able to visually read and respond to computer-generated data such as instrumentation, gauges, readouts, and variations in colors.What we offer :
