The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (SCA) provides leadership in health promotion, early detection, treatment and research for cancer at our two cancer centres, the Allan Blair Cancer Centre in Regina, and the Saskatoon Cancer Centre. We also provide services in rural communities in partnership with hospitals through the Community Oncology Program. Provincially, we provide services to around 10,000 patients annually and our radiation oncology services account for 2,400 patients annually. Our goal is to deliver safe, person-centric care; we value teamwork and encourage colleagues to work together. Our vision is a healthy population free from cancer, and our more than 900 dedicated employees work hard every day towards this vision.
Being an Oncology Assistant
We are currently seeking skilled and compassionate international medical graduates with a passion for oncology to join our team. Through our unique in-house training program, successful candidates will receive training in oncology and specific disease sites. The Oncology Assistant will work under the supervision of the oncologists for the care of Adult Medical, Radiation Oncology and Hematology out-patients through investigations, symptomatic management and coordination of ancillary services and discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities
You will collaborate with oncologists in the evaluation of out-patient new consultations, follow-ups and patients on treatment. You will work in a shared care modal in a specific area of Oncology or Hematology and work directly, with this area, in collaboration with an oncologist. You will obtain patient history, perform medical examinations, write common prescriptions and continue systematic therapy, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and endocrine therapy. You will work under the supervision of a qualified oncologist / hematologist and spend one year training in this model of care. At the end of this year of training, you will begin practicing more independently while remaining under the supervision of a qualified oncologist.
