Casual (up to 30) – Recreation, Culture & Community Services Department – Competition #26-04

Langley City has an exciting opportunity for lifeguards at our Al Anderson Memorial outdoor pool! Come join a great team for fun in the sun. Lifeguard / Instructors are responsible for promoting participation in aquatic activities, teaching Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program, public relations, supervision of the public within the pool complex, assisting with special events, and preparing swimming lesson plans, records, and report cards at the beginning and end of instructional sessions.
The Casual assignments start April 7, 2026, and end on September 27, 2026. Lifeguard / Instructor In‑Service training is April 7 to 10, 2026 (time to be determined). Applicants must be available for these dates. Candidates who have been selected for an interview will be required to attend a Skills Assessment on either February 28 or March 1, 2026 (time to be determined). Candidates successful in the Skills Assessment will be required to attend an In‑person Interview scheduled between March 5 and 13, 2026.
RATE OF PAY : $31.74 – $32.72 per hour (2024 CUPE rates)
HOURS OF WORK : Up to 40 hours per week (Monday to Sunday including days, afternoons, evenings, and weekends)
Casual employees are paid 12.5% of their regular earnings in lieu of benefits and paid annual vacation.
Required certifications : A valid Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR‑C / AED, National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option), and Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor.
Desired experience : Previous experience at Al Anderson Memorial Pool, Lifesaving Society Instructor / Examiner, and Pool Operator Certificate Level 1.
