Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Geotechnical Engineer with local experience to join our team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan .
Thurber is a specialized consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical engineering. Our project work includes transportation, large and small infrastructure, natural hazards, development and more.
We undertake challenging assignments that can include steep terrain, deep foundations, compressible soils, landslides, contamination, or other complications.
As our Engineer, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, as well as performing technical analyses where appropriate;
- Identifying new opportunities and working with the Branch Manager or other specialists within the firm to develop them.
- Provide guidance, and where necessary, support in coordination, preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling / resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets on projects;
- Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals;
- Supporting mentoring, coaching and training of staff;
- Help promote Thurber mission, vision, and values amongst Thurber staff.
- Establishing, developing, promoting and maintaining relationships with clients;
- Active participation in the field on a project specific basis as dictated by the needs of the project to meet client expectations and project objectives;
- Manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams and,
- Travel to project locations, as well as to Client offices and other Thurber Branch offices.
This is a senior career position and will be comprised of office-based activities with occasional field visits, with opportunities for continued career growth within the company.
Qualifications and Assets
- Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering;
- Graduate Degree (M.Eng., M.Sc. or Ph.D.) preferred;
- Relevant experience in the Geotechnical or Geological Engineering field. Local Canadian experience strongly preferred;
- Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required;
- Strong attention to detail
- An effective communicator with strong writing skills;
- Class 5 Drivers license and comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments;
- Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites;
- Eligible for membership with APEGS;
- Business development experience is an asset;
- Specialized experience in foundation analysis and design, dams, tailings or terrain analysis is an asset;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
- Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing);
- Experienced in the use of specialized geotechnical software; and,
- Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environment.
